MP3 players and gaming devices perfect holiday gift : MP3 players continue to reign at the top of teens' holiday wish lists, just above video game systems, according to the 3rd Annual Teen Holiday Survey. Portable gaming devices, computers and cell phones round out the top five consumer electronics devices teens are asking for this holiday season. "This will mark yet another strong year in the growing phenomenon of portable digital audio devices, especially among the teen market," said Sean Wargo, CEA's director of industry analysis. "In fact, CEA expects more than 33 million units of MP3 devices will ship this year." The percentage of teens wanting a portable digital audio device, has doubled, rising from 8 percent to 16 percent.

Consumer Electronics Gifts : Consumer electronics (CE) gifts will account for a quarter of all holiday gifts with revenues reaching $21 billion this holiday season, compared to $17 billion (21 percent) in 2005. Results from the 13th Annual CE Holiday Purchase Patterns study were presented by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) at CEA's 2006 Industry Forum, a three-day conference designed to inform, connect and educate professionals, industry analysts and media on the latest trends, technologies and legislation affecting the industry. "The holiday outlook for our industry is a merry one," said Director of Industry Analysis Sean Wargo. "Consumers' confidence in the economy is on the rise and the CE industry will benefit.

CES International 2007 : CES keynotes, high-performance audio and home theater exhibitors, Innovations honorees, emerging technology exhibits, TechZones, and a range of special media events take center stage at the newest venue of the 2007 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) - Innovations Plus at the Sands. To accommodate these must-see events, CES is augmenting the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) with halls B, C and D of the Sands Expo and Convention Center and portions of the adjoining Venetian Hotel. The 2007 International CES, the world's largest annual consumer technology tradeshow, runs January 8-11, in Las Vegas, Nevada. This year, keynotes will move from their previous location at the Las Vegas Hilton.

With a focus on issues such as energy efficiency and intellectual property, CEA representatives will meet with state policymakers to promote public policy solutions that protect innovation, preserve consumer choice and promote growth in the vibrant consumer technology sector. On Tuesday, August 15th, Douglas Johnson, CEA's senior director of technology will participate in "Energy Efficiency and the Electronics Industry," a panel discussion that will explore the electronics industry's efforts to address energy consumption.

Back to School with new consumer electronics : Seventy-two percent of teens expect to have a new consumer electronics (CE) product for back to school this year, according to a recent survey from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)). According to the study, Back to School CE Spending, parents and teens are expected to spend $ 3.1 billion for CE devices this year for back to school. Not surprisingly, calculators and computers topped the list of products that both teens and parents are likely to buy for school. "While calculators have been a staple on back to school shopping lists for some time now, computers are a relatively recent 'must-have' item," says Steve Koenig, CEA's senior manager of industry analysis.

CES 2007 Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards : The International Consumer Electronics Show will host the Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards for the first time next year, announced Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and Peter Price, president and CEO, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards will be CES's opening evening event on January 8, 2007. The International CES, the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, will be held in Las Vegas, January 8-11, 2007 and will celebrate the show's 40th anniversary. The National Television Academy is currently accepting entries for the Advanced Media Technology Emmy Awards in nine categories.

Donald Bitzer in CEA Industry Hall of Fame : Dr. Bitzer, distinguished university research professor, will join industry inventors, executives, editors and retailers in the prestigious Consumer Electronics Industry Hall of Fame. He will be formally inducted at the association's annual Industry Forum in San Francisco Oct.16-18, 2006. Dr. Bitzer, along with two colleagues at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Robert Willson and the late Dr. H. Gene Slottow, invented the plasma display in 1960. This development was the precursor to today's high definition plasma TV’s. The team received an Emmy from the National Academy of TV Arts and Sciences for their efforts in advancing TV technology.

Consumer Electronics growth to continue through 2007 : The Consumer Electronics Association forecasts total CE factory-to-dealer sales to reach $140 billion in 2006, an eight percent growth over 2005, as shown in figures released today by CEA in its semi-annual U.S. Consumer Electronics Sales and Forecasts Report. According to CEA Market Research, final year-end totals reached $128 billion in 2005, making 11 percent growth over 2004. "The mid-year numbers show continued robust growth in the CE industry, category to category," said CEA President and CEO Gary Shapiro. "Consumers are embracing new technologies in this digital age, as they make new or upgrade purchases for the home, the car, the office or anywhere."

Consumer Electronics most wanted graduation gifts : The estimated six million graduates set to receive diplomas and turn tassels across the country this year will be a boon to the consumer electronics (CE) industry, according to research released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). Parents, relatives and friends of students will be shopping for gifts to celebrate the achievement of their loved ones, some 45 percent of whom say they would like to receive CE products for graduation this year. "Apparently, nothing says 'job well done' like a new plasma TV," says Steve Koenig, CEA's senior manager of industry analysis. "The results of this study demonstrate how important CE products have become in youth culture."

Consumer Electronics best Fathers Day gift : Father's Day gifts could account for more than $9 billion in spending on consumer electronics this year, according to research released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). According to Gadgets for Dad: A Father's Day Study, 24 percent of adults intend to buy a CE device for dad this year, while 38 percent of teens are looking to treat their father to a gadget gift this holiday. "As prices come down on some of the most desired CE products, even smaller holidays offer dads the opportunity to build their gadget collection," said Sean Wargo, CEA's director of industry analysis. CEA's research shows that 42 percent of dads are hoping for a CE device as a gift for Father's Day.

Cameras rank highest among Mother's Day Gift : With Mother's Day just around the corner on May 14, moms and grandmothers across the country are eyeing consumer electronics, according to research from the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). Thirty-two percent of moms would like to receive a consumer electronics device this Mother's Day and 55 percent of moms would choose a digital camera over a $200 gift certificate for a home cleaning service. CEA's study, Electronics for Mom: A Mother's Day Study, released May 2006, surveyed both gift receivers (moms and grandmothers) and gift givers (adults and teens).
