Nikon EN-EL3 battery recall : Through strict quality control procedures Nikon has detected that on rare occasions some rechargeable Li-ion batteries of the type EN-EL3 for Nikon Digital SLR cameras may become defective, resulting in an overheating during recharging. Investigations have clarified that the cause of the defect is not a design fault, but has resulted from a temporary problem in a manufacturing process that occurred during the production of this battery type between May and September 2004. In the interests of its customers and as a reflection of Nikon’s commitment to safety and product quality, the company has initiated a voluntary recall and replacement program of all EN-EL3 batteries manufactured during this period.

Lexar Media expands relation with Sony : Lexar Media announced that it has expanded its licensing relationship with Sony. Under the agreement, Lexar has granted to Sony a license to Lexar's patents for Sony products not covered by the companies' existing cross-license agreement. This agreement builds on the relationship when Lexar and Sony signed a fundamental patent cross-license agreement under which Lexar gained the right to manufacture and sell the Memory Stick products. "As one of the first companies ever to work with NAND flash memory, with a heritage dating back to 1994, Lexar has some of the earliest patents on flash system design and performance," said Eric Whitaker, executive vice president and general counsel, Lexar.

Wal-Mart and SAM’S CLUB locations are the first retailers to offer this 2-day off-site printing. The Digital Dropbox is the industry’s first free-standing unit that combines a traditional film drop box, with a digital order terminal. Consumers can drop off their film in an envelope or simply insert their digital media into the terminal, enter their name and phone number, choose print size and quantity, remove their media, take their receipt, and go. Picture Transfer Protocol gets ISO 15740 : The International Imaging Industry Association (I3A) announced that the widely supported Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) for Digital Still Photography Devices, originally developed by I3A's IT10 Standards Committee, has been published as ISO (International Organization for Standardization) 15740.. I3A serves as secretariat for ISO TC (technical committee) 42, which develops and approves international photography standards, with a focus on advanced digital imaging. I3A also serves as administrator of the USA Technical Advisory Group for the ISO/TC42 committee. PTP enables the transfer of digital images from cameras to other devices without additional device drivers.
