Toshiba direct methanol fuel cell

Mark Peters : 2005-09-04 21:00:00
Toshiba direct methanol fuel cell : At the IFA show 2005 in Berlin I found a great alternative for rechargeable batteries for personal devices such as Notebook-PCs, digital audio players, portable DVD players, cellular phones, etc. This high tech innovation has been public for some time now, but still its potential is or could be great. Fuel cell itself generates power enabling users to power a device for as long as the fuel tank is topped up. Toshiba has developed the world's smallest Direct Methanol Fuel Cell using a high concentration of methanol as fuel. It is a completely different way of thinking. A Fuel Cell is like a small generator. It produces energy from fuel, such as hydrogen or alcohol to power a chemical reaction.

Toshiba Lithium-Ion Battery recharged in 1 minute

Mark Peters : 2005-03-30 04:50:00
Toshiba Lithium-Ion Battery recharged in 1 minute : Toshiba announced a breakthrough in lithium-ion batteries that makes long recharge times a thing of the past. Toshiba's new battery can recharge 80 percent of the battery's energy capacity in one minute, approximately 60 times faster than the typical Li-ion batteries. The energy density is 150 to 250 Wh (Watt-hour)/liter, equal to the lower range of energy densities existing lithium ion batteries have. Advanced Li-ion rechargeable batteries reach densities of 600 Wh/l. Toshiba's prototype battery has a capacity of 600mAh and measures.8mm thick, 62mm high and 35mm deep. It was demonstrated in hard disc music player for about 10 minutes by charging 5 milliwatts in 5 seconds.
