Canon CCD fault in still & video cameras : A problem has been discovered in some of the CCDs (Charge Coupled Devices) used in Canon USA and Asia digital camera and digital video camera products that causes images to appear distorted or not to appear at all. We apologize for the considerable inconvenience this represents for our customers. Along with our respectful apology, we would like to advise our customers of the details of this issue and our policy for handling it, which are as follows. Among the Canon CCDs used in the affected products listed furter down the story, it has been confirmed that, especially under high-temperature/high-humidity environments, the internal wiring may come undone in some places.

Konica Minolta Photo Imaging division closure : Konica Minolta Photo Imaging Canada, Inc. will cease its operations in the Canadian market only. All other world-wide Konica Minolta subsidiary's and companies will remain operational. Distribution of Konica Minolta products including film, single use cameras, and inkjet paper will be conducted through Phototrader Inc. and there should be no disruption of these products at the retail level. Phototrader will also be responsible for service requirements of mini-labs. They can be reached at their head office via telephone, or via email. SanDisk appoints Randhir Thakur Vice President : SanDisk Corporation today announced the appointment of Dr. Randhir Thakur to the newly created position of executive vice president of technology and worldwide operations. Dr. Thakur will be based at SanDisk's headquarters in Sunnyvale and will report directly to Sanjay Mehrotra, chief operating officer. In his new role, Dr. Thakur will be responsible for all aspects of SanDisk NAND flash memory roadmap including the design and development of flash memory and devices, and process and fab manufacturing / operations. In addition, he is also responsible for all of SanDisk's worldwide operations including assembly, test, manufacturing, fulfillment, demand/supply planning and logistics.

Fujifilm service advisory for FinePix CCD cameras : Fujifilm has released a service advisory to owner's of the Fujifilm FinePix A303, F410, and FinePix F700 Digital Cameras. The advisory announces that some of the Fujifilm FinePix A303, Finepix F410, and Fujifilm F700 digital camera models may develop a problem with the CCD imaging sensor. However, the problem affects a limited number of units and may not occur in all cameras. The symptoms are captured images that appear completely black, have a purplish cast or multi- colored distortions. These symptoms would be seen on the camera LCD monitor when the camera is in the shooting mode or during playback. A limited number of these models will have these problems.
