ImageLink compatible cameras and printers hit the market : One year after the announcement of the ImageLink print system - a specification designed to simplify at-home picture printing - new cameras and printers supporting the standard are being released. Joining a host of Kodak EasyShare cameras and printer docks already released this year, Olympus has announced the Camedia C315 zoom digital camera, the Olympus D555 zoom digital camera and ILP-100 printer dock which are all ImageLink compatible. "Since the ImageLink print system was announced last September by Kodak and a group of the world’s largest consumer digital photography companies, the response has been overwhelming,” said Yusuke Kojima, vice president Kodak Japan Ltd.

Sony Europe appoints new president Fujio Nishida : Sony Corporation today announced that Chris Deering, President of Sony Europe has decided to retire from Sony, in order to pursue personal opportunities in the US, where his family now resides. Effective November 1, Mr. Deering will be succeeded by Fujio Nishida, who currently serves as Corporate Executive, in charge of Electronics Marketing at Sony Corporation in Tokyo. Deering and Nishida will work closely together to facilitate a smooth transition of responsibilities, after which Mr. Deering will continue to work with the company in a consulting capacity. Deering was appointed President of Sony Europe in April 2004 after successful career at Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

Fujifilm researches camera phone printing : Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc. today released findings from a camera phone behavior study completed by NPD Techworld, a division of the NPD Group, Inc., revealing that 44.6% of participants said they have taken pictures with their camera phone that they wished they had printed. The most commonly noted reasons for not printing these images included image quality, simplicity of process and overall perceived cost. The study, based on a survey of more than 400 U.S. camera phone owners, points to a significant opportunity for retailers to capitalize on the printing potential from accelerating adoption rates of camera phones and the growth in mobile imaging.

Fujifilm names Drysdale head of Electronic Imaging : Fujifilm has announced the appointment of Bill Drysdale to Vice President of the Electronic Imaging Products Division, formerly the Digital Devices Division. Drysdale is responsible for the Planning, Marketing and Sales of Fujifilm?s digital cameras and digital accessories in the US market. Drysdale joined Fujifilm in 1988 as a Product Manager in what is now the company's Recording Media Division. He has held various sales, marketing and product management positions in that Division, rising to Vice President, Sales, where he managed all Division sales activities, concentrating on sales of consumer products within the Electronics, Music retail, Photo Specialty and E-Commerce.

Consumer electronic sales rises by 9% : Digital cameras, flat panels, communications devices and MP3 players continue to drive consumer electronics (CE) industry sales growth as evidenced in figures released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) in its revised U.S. Consumer Electronics Sales and Forecast Report. According to Market Research, total CE factory-to-dealer sales in 2005 are projected to increase 9% on revenues of $123 billion. CEA reported that final year-end figures indicate total industry sales grew 10% in 2004, totaling $113 billion in revenues. MMC approves "ATA on MMC'' : The MultiMediaCard Association (MMCA) today announced it has approved "ATA on MMC" Specification Ver. 1.0, the interface designed especially for small form factor disk drives in next-generation portable consumer electronic devices. The ver. 1.0 specification is the first work to be released by the MMCA "ATA on MMC" Technical Sub-Committee, formed in June 2004 to address the growing needs of low-power hard disk drive data storage solution for small CE devices. The "ATA on MMC" interface specification enables HDDs to leverage the MMC bus already supported on many CE products. It is a cost effective solution to implement HDDs in small systems with low pin count, low voltage, and efficient power management.
