Sony compactFlash Type II media : Sony Europe's Recording Media & Energy (RME) division today announced the launch of its first 5GB CompactFlash Type II media, under the new Compactvaul brand. The new Compactvaul provides the latest addition to Sony's removable media range, enabling storage of up to 1600 images or four hours of MPEG 4 recording. The one-inch hard disk drive boasts a native transfer rate of up to 96.7Mbps, which is further maximized when the Compactvaul is used in conjunction with future Cybercapture enabled products, providing even faster recording of images and higher quality of videos, in what is termed AV mode. The 5GB Compactvaul will be available from November 2005.

Sony Micro Vault media with the Virtual Expander : Sony’s latest enhancements to its Micro Vault USB storage media line include a new Virtual Expander feature that stretches the virtual capacity of the device to store as much as three times more data. The Virtual Expander feature is included in the latest Classic and Mini Micro Vault designs. In addition, Sony is introducing the Micro Vault Turbo with a rapid 28MB/sec maximum transfer speed. Together, these products create a comprehensive offering for increasingly storage-hungry users who need to take more data and high quality multimedia content wherever they go. Micro Vault media with the Virtual Expander feature is currently shipping at the same MSRP as the prior Micro Vault line.

Sony 4GB Memory Stick PRO introduction : Sony is doubling the capacity of its flash media product line with the introduction of 4GB Memory Stick PRO (High Speed) media. The new 4GB media is expected to become a valuable tool for users who need to store and easily transfer large quantities of digital content, such as high-resolution digital photos and video clips. The high-capacity media features increased durability with a standard operating temperature range of -13°F to +185°F, swift data transfer speeds and compatibility with a wide selection of currently available Memory Stick PRO devices. "This new high capacity and high-speed media improves the consumer's enjoyment of advanced digital products."

Sony Micro Vault introduction at CES 2005 : Exhibiting its most extensive Micro Vault product line-up to date here at CES, Sony is introducing an array of products that include a 5GB Micro Vault PRO USB-enabled hard drive, and a redesigned Micro Vault with Fingerprint Access. "We have seen the use of USB storage devices grow exponentially every year since we first introduced the Micro Vault in 2002," said Michael Lucas, director of consumer and convergent media for Sony Electronics' Media and Applications Solutions Division. "As pioneers in this category, we are adding several new products to the line-up as well as product enhancements that will offer tailored solutions for the wide breadth of consumers who are using these devices."
