Eddy Hartenstein to SanDisk board of directors : SanDisk Corporation, the world's largest supplier of flash storage card products, today announced the appointment of Eddy W. Hartenstein to its board of directors. Mr. Hartenstein will commence service immediately. "Eddy's leadership and passion in forming the direct broadcast satellite business has provided him with a unique understanding of new market creation. This experience as well as his knowledge of the consumer marketplace will be very valuable to SanDisk's focus on changing the consumer electronics industry and I look forward to his expertise and counsel," said Eli Harari, SanDisk's President and Chief Executive Officer.

SanDisk appoints Randhir Thakur Vice President : SanDisk Corporation today announced the appointment of Dr. Randhir Thakur to the newly created position of executive vice president of technology and worldwide operations. Dr. Thakur will be based at SanDisk's headquarters in Sunnyvale and will report directly to Sanjay Mehrotra, chief operating officer. In his new role, Dr. Thakur will be responsible for all aspects of SanDisk NAND flash memory roadmap including the design and development of flash memory and devices, and process and fab manufacturing / operations. In addition, he is also responsible for all of SanDisk's worldwide operations including assembly, test, manufacturing, fulfillment, demand/supply planning and logistics.

Tower supplies security device for SanDisk : Tower Semiconductor Ltd. a pure-play independent specialty foundry, today announced that Tower will manufacture a highly secure memory controller for SanDisk Corporation's new family of TrustedFlash memory cards. The controller is manufactured at Tower's Fab2, in 0.18-micron geometry. The memory controller on SanDisk's TrustedFlash products was co-developed with Tower to include advanced security features that allow safe transfer of downloaded content such as music files, movies and games. TrustedFlash cards are intended for use in portable devices such as mobile phones, MP3 players, Personal Digital Assistants, portable games and more.

Court reinstates patent lawsuit filed by SanDisk : SanDisk Corporation announced today that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) on July 8, reversed a summary judgment ruling of non-infringement by a California District Court regarding SanDisk's U.S. Patent No. 5,602,987 (“'987 Patent”). As a result of the CAFC decision, SanDisk will renew the prosecution of its infringement claims against Ritek, Pretec & Memorex flash memory cards. The CAFC ruling supports SanDisk’s interpretation of the key inventive features claimed in the ?987 patent, and thereby eliminates the primary non-infringement argument of Ritek, Pretec & Memorex. SanDisk expects to seek summary judgment of infringement against the accused company's.

Hem Takiar promoted to Vice President at SanDisk : SanDisk Corporation today announced the promotion of Hem Takiar, 49, to vice president of packaging engineering, quality and reliability. Takiar, who has been with SanDisk for four years, oversees the packaging design and engineering that is required to develop and manufacture removable flash memory card products that are used in a growing number of consumer electronics devices such as mobile phones, digital cameras, games and MP3 players. In addition, Takiar will head the corporate quality and reliability organization and will have responsibility for driving the world-class quality goals across all products.
