Lucidiom will be showcasing its APM 7000 at the 2006 International CES, January 5-8 at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC). CES attendees can use the APMs themselves to create their own mementos of their Vegas experiences. Show attendees can print custom greeting cards and scrapbook pages, as well as make standard 4x6 prints, for free at six APMs located at North 1, Central 2 and South 3 LVCC hall entrances. The acquisition of the privately-held company will enable HP to rapidly extend the reach of its online photo services throughout Europe, building on the purchase of Snapfish earlier this year. HP plans to extend many of its Snapfish capabilities to the Pixaco service - bringing European customers greater choices for printing, sharing and storing their photos. Today, Snapfish has 20 million registered users in the United States and United Kingdom and is adding up to 1 million new users every month.

US online photo services are growing : InfoTrends / CAP Ventures’ online photo services report finds that 29% of US internet users are now online photo service members, representing an increase of 12% over 2004. Pureplay online photo services, dot-coms, dominate the online print market. About 78% of online photo service members belong to a pureplay site like Kodak EasyShare Gallery, while just 14% are members of a retail online photo service like Walmart.com. Today, pureplay online photo services members are more motivated to share their digital photos, while retail online users are more motivated to print. Nevertheless, changing market dynamics could shake up the status quo of the online photo services market.

HP's Snapfish online photo collection helps victims : HP today announced that customers of its Snapfish online photo service who lived in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina will be offered a credit to replenish their online photo collections in an effort to help restore lost memories. Each customer will be offered a free 4 x 6-inch reprint for every photo they had uploaded to their Snapfish account prior to the hurricane. The credit will remain in their account indefinitely so affected customers can wait until they are resettled to order prints. HP estimates that more than 10,000 Snapfish customers lived in the damaged areas. Collectively, they have roughly 3 million images stored online.
