Nikon AF-S DX 18-55mm G ED lens introduction : Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce the introduction of the Nikon AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED lens, an ultra compact, lightweight standard zoom lens with a 3x focal range that is ideal for everyday photography, offers a remarkable cost-to-performance ratio and features optics optimized for use with Nikon digital SLRs. It is ideally suited to the new Nikon D50. The lens offers users the popular 18-55mm focal length range, which conveniently covers everything from tight indoor portraits to standard snap shots. The newly developed compact SWM (Silent Wave Motor) has given rise to an ultra compact lightweight design that offers excellent handling characteristics.

Nikon D70 firmware update introduction : Nikon Corporation is pleased to announce a firmware update that brings refined performance enhancements to the Nikon D70. The Nikon D70 firmware update to be released shortly aims to share enhancements developed for the new D70s. The firmware update includes the following additions and refinements: improved performance for the 5-area autofocus system’s Dynamic Area AF and Closest Subject Priority Dynamic Area AF modes, updated menus with a new design similar to that of the D70s, making them easier to view and quicker to recognize, and added in-camera page setup support for PictBridge compatible printers. Nikon Corporation will release the Nikon D70 firmware update worldwide in mid-May 2005.

Nikon sponsors exhibition that captures C.McGregor : Nikon is pleased to be sponsoring an exhibition which will showcase Ian Rutherford’s award winning photographs of Carol McGregor witnessing life-transforming charity work in Bangladesh. Carol McGregor, 2001 Scot of the Year’ and mother of Ewan, went to witness the work of charity Sight Savers International and found the whole experience “life-changing” and highly inspiring. The exhibition depicts Sight Savers’ work restoring sight, preventing blindness and helping those who will never see have better lives in Bangladesh, one of the 32 countries in which it operates. The exhibition will be on show in Edinburgh and London galleries from March to May 2005.

Both cameras have been designed to meet the requirements of the entry-level digital SLR user. The first will position itself as successor to the Nikon D70, offering an upgraded version to this highly commended D-SLR. The camera will incorporate the latest in Nikon technology, whilst retaining the functionality and quality which has come to be expected from the D70. In addition to this, Nikon will be introducing a second D-SLR, specifically designed for consumers looking to upgrade from a digital compact to the next level of digital photography. The camera will be affordable and easy to use, perfect for the D-SLR beginner.

Nikon D70 digital camera preview : Beginning of December 2003 Nikon announced that they would soon bring out on the market a fully new digital SLR camera with interchangeable lenses, so the Nikon D70 became a fact. The new D70 is a combination of a high quality digital camera with the most important features of an analogue SLR camera, and an attractive price. The official specifications weren't announced yet in December and for many of us it was difficult to wait with patience, but yesterday finally the specifications were revealed to everyone. And when they were revealed to us, it was very clear straight away that the Nikon D70 is a high quality product!
