Nikon D70, D70s and D50 digital SLR output boost

Ilse Jurriën : 2005-07-13 11:15:00
Nikon D70, D70s and D50 digital SLR output boost : Japan's Nikon Corp. is considering boosting production capacity at its digital single lens reflex camera factory in Thailand to meet rapidly growing demand, a company executive said on Thursday. In an interview with Reuters, senior managing director Makoto Kimura said the company was mulling a plan to enlarge its Thailand factory, which employs about 10,000 workers and produces most of Nikon's digital SLRs sold worldwide. Boosting sales of digital SLRs is central to Nikon's strategy of shifting away from the low end of the market, where pricing pressure is fiercest. Digital SLRs fetch higher profit margins and allow Nikon to leverage its lens technology and long history in film SLRs.

This July, NikonNet's inspiring monthly, "Legends Behind the Lens," honors the work of esteemed sports photographer George Tiedemann, a man who has not only contributed so much to the sports world, but served our country as well. "NikonNet is pleased to honor the images and extraordinary career of George Tiedemann in this July's 'Legends Behind the Lens,'" said Tracy Mack- Jackson.

Nikon D50 review

Ilse Jurriën : 2005-06-20 01:00:00
Nikon D50 digital camera review : Nikon definitely scored a bull's-eye with the Nikon D70 digital SLR camera. The D70 seemed to throw its biggest rival, the Canon EOS 300D, into the shade. The Canon however carried a more attractive price tag. So Nikon struck back with the introduction of the Nikon D50 digital reflex (D-SLR) last April. A digital reflex, which is more compact than the Nikon D70s, but still featuring many interesting specifications. At first glance the differences between the Nikon D70s and the D50 are small. The Nikon D50 has a somewhat slower image speed (2.5 frames per second compared with three images at the Nikon D70s), a slower maximum shutter speed and less settings for ISO values.

Nikon shift focus to SLR cameras with D70s and D50

Mark Peters : 2005-05-23 21:44:41
Nikon shift focus to SLR cameras with D70s and D50 : This week Nikon announced a net $226 million jump in profit for the recently concluded fiscal year. The boost comes from the sales of “steppers”, the equipment used to make integrated circuits, and not in its imaging division. Fortunately, for Nikon the increased sales in circuit printing equipment offsets a reported drop in profits from Nikon’s imaging division, home to its digital camera line when compared to the previous year. The drop was due in part to sharp declines in prices market-wide, with Nikon cutting digital camera prices by 20 percent as of March.

Mark Peters : 2005-05-20 01:00:00
Nikon Coolpix S1 digital camera review : Nikon introduced a small digital design camera in the first quarter of this year: the Nikon Coolpix S1. This model is completely newly developed and has a very classy appearance. The Nikon S1 is available in the colours Pure Silver and Ebony Black. The material used for the housing of the camera is aluminium and is beautifully finished. The new Nikon Coolpix S1 has a very compact size and is ultra flat with only 19.7 mm. Despite its slim body, the camera is equipped with a 3x optical zoom lens that doesn't extend, like we have seen on other thin digital cameras. This means we find an internal zoom lens with a 3x optical range on this Nikon digital camera.
