New media card readers from Fujifilm : Fujifilm, producer of memory cards for digital devices, today announces four new media card readers, all characterized by their high performance, stylish design and ease-of-use. Each new card reader is capable of incredibly quick data transfer speeds of up to 480Mbps via a plug-and-play, USB 2.0 connection. The devices also feature a futuristic blue LED that lights up when they are in use. Tania Payne, Product Manager at Fujifilm, said, “Not only are these media card readers attractively designed and eye-catching, but they have performance to match. Their incredibly quick speeds and ease-of-use make them indispensable for anyone needing to download data in an efficient and hassle-free manner.”

Sony compactFlash Type II media : Sony Europe's Recording Media & Energy (RME) division today announced the launch of its first 5GB CompactFlash Type II media, under the new Compactvaul brand. The new Compactvaul provides the latest addition to Sony's removable media range, enabling storage of up to 1600 images or four hours of MPEG 4 recording. The one-inch hard disk drive boasts a native transfer rate of up to 96.7Mbps, which is further maximized when the Compactvaul is used in conjunction with future Cybercapture enabled products, providing even faster recording of images and higher quality of videos, in what is termed AV mode. The 5GB Compactvaul will be available from November 2005.

Memory Giant SanDisk acquires Matrix Semiconductor : SanDisk Corporation and Matrix Semiconductor, Inc. today announced that they signed a definitive agreement for SanDisk to acquire Matrix. Matrix is a privately held company based in Santa Clara, California that has been developing and supplying 3-D integrated circuit (three dimensional) one-time programmable (OTP) technology since its inception in 1998. Matrix 3-D Memory is used for storage applications that do not require multiple rewrites and where low cost is the paramount consideration, such as video games, music and other content, or for archiving. SanDisk is the original inventor of flash storage cards and is the world's largest supplier of flash data storage card products.
