Photokina 2006 : Although there are nearly 12 months to go before Photokina 2006 takes place, the World of Imaging is already taking shape. The first highlight of the supporting program has already been finalized: the new Hall 1 (formerly Hall 4) will become a meeting place for imaging professionals from around the world. The Visual Gallery and the Meet the Professionals sections will be set up here. One new feature will be a forum for international image agencies. Toshiba digital concepts : At the IFA 2005 show, Toshiba is showing several prototypes or studies of new ideas and solutions. OLED is something that seems to be pushed into the background presently, but companies like Toshiba are still investing time and money into this new display technology. One of the concepts is an OLED/SD Memory Card viewer. This concept model is showcased at the Toshiba booth. The OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) display is 3.5-inch large and offers a resolution of 320x240 pixels. It plays MPEG4 movies directly from Secure Digital (SD) card (QVGA 30 frames per second) and offers six hours playback. It seems that playing movies and music from flash cards will be the next step for portable entertainment.

IFA 2005 Berlin opening day! : This morning, Sept. 1, 2005, the IFA 2005 event in Berlin, Germany started. At 09:00 the show floor opened for journalists and I went inside to see what's happening around the boots. Hall 1.2 is one of the main halls where brands like Nikon, Casio and Kodak are located. The first hours of this great event are starting off slowly. The early visitors are participants, resellers and journalists like myself. Some weeks before this IFA event kicked off, a lot of brands like Nikon, Canon and Olympus introduced quite a number of digital cameras. Just now I spotted the new Nikon products like the Nikon Coolpix P1, Coolpix P2 and Nikon Coolpix S4 behind glass.

IFA 2005 expects record number of exhibitors : The IFA 2005 (2 - 7 September) continues to provide the impetus for the worldwide expansion of the consumer electronics industry. The 160,000 m(2) of hall space and numerous outdoor sites at the IFA will feature displays by 1,189 exhibitors from more than 40 countries, setting a new record at the IFA 2005 for the numbers of exhibitors, which have risen 15 per cent compared with the last event. The leading exhibitors at this year's IFA will include such major names as ARD, Deutsche Telekom AG, LG Electronics, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, harman consumer group international, Philips and Vestel, some of them occupying areas of as much as 6,000 sq. metres.
