Fujifilm integrates Fujifilm Microdevices : Fuji Photo Film announced that on March 31, 2006, Fujifilm Microdevices, a fully owned subsidiary that manufactures products such as the Super CCD, will be fully integrated with Fujifilm. The integration is designed to enhance the competitiveness of its digital camera business by consolidating the management of CCD manufacturing and digital camera development/manufacturing. At the same time, the move is designed to further improve capabilities for development and manufacturing technologies related to CCD Optical Module for electronic endoscopes and other devices. Fujifilm Microdevices has been engaged in the development and manufacturing of digital camera CCDs and signal processing LSI.

Yoram Cedar vice president at SanDisk : SanDisk Corporation US announced today the promotion of Yoram Cedar to the position of executive vice president of the handset business and corporate engineering at SanDisk United States of America. In his new position, Cedar will report to Sanjay Mehrotra, SanDisk’s chief operating officer, and will have responsibility for leading the creation of new flash memory platforms and markets for the mobile phone business. Sony Germany relocate office to Berlin

Sony Europe relocate office to Berlin : Sony Europe announced today that Sony Deutschland GmbH, its German Sales & Marketing Company, will relocate from Cologne to Berlin during the next fiscal year, starting from April 1, 2006. The Sony Center at Potsdamer Platz, one of Berlin’s renowned landmarks, currently accommodates Sony’s European headquarters as well as other Sony Group companies. “Relocating from Cologne to Berlin, the capital of Germany, will allow Sony Germany to gain more momentum and competitiveness and to further enhance the current positive sales trend“, says Manfred Gerdes, Managing Director of Sony Deutschland GmbH. Sony Germany will also implement a restructuring of its current workforce by spring 2006.

Leica sales grow : The Leica Camera Group, Solms, has closed the first half year of fiscal 2005/2006 with sales growing by 6.7 % on the previous year period, to € 48.0 million. The largest sales growth was recorded by the binoculars, scopes and rangefinders of the Leica sports optics division, which increased by 34.4 % to € 17.7 million. The main driving force behind this positive development were the Leica Geovid BRF high performance binoculars with their integrated laser rangefinder. The integration of digital technology into the existing product range was also decisive for the 30.5 % growth experienced in the Leica system cameras division, which posted sales of € 16.6 million.

OnAsia Digital provides scanning, retouching, color-correction, keywording and clipping path/outlining services. The company says it will be mainly targeting image libraries, professional photographers and the pre-press industry. "These types of service are a natural extension of our photo agency background," explains the agency’s Co-Director, Peter Charlesworth. "We’ve been providing scanning, retouching and other services for quite some time. Our proprietary keywording system has also been widely admired stimulating demand for our keywording serice."

Samsung belongs to best consumer electronics brand : In a survey of the top 100 global brands, BusinessWeek magazine & Interbrand Consultancy have valued Samsung's brand at $14.9 billion in 2005, making it the world's topmost consumer electronics brand, a position long held by more entrenched player Sony. Furthermore, Samsung's brand, now ranked at No. 20 position among the top 100 global brands, has posted the biggest gain in value of any global brand with a 186 per cent surge over the past five years. The report, considered to be one of the most prestigious global brand studies, states that Samsung's key success factor was its strategy to build a strong, single brand experience coupled with innovating cool-design digital products.
