Fujifilm integrates Fujifilm Microdevices : Fuji Photo Film announced that on March 31, 2006, Fujifilm Microdevices, a fully owned subsidiary that manufactures products such as the Super CCD, will be fully integrated with Fujifilm. The integration is designed to enhance the competitiveness of its digital camera business by consolidating the management of CCD manufacturing and digital camera development/manufacturing. At the same time, the move is designed to further improve capabilities for development and manufacturing technologies related to CCD Optical Module for electronic endoscopes and other devices. Fujifilm Microdevices has been engaged in the development and manufacturing of digital camera CCDs and signal processing LSI.

Sony Europe relocate office to Berlin : Sony Europe announced today that Sony Deutschland GmbH, its German Sales & Marketing Company, will relocate from Cologne to Berlin during the next fiscal year, starting from April 1, 2006. The Sony Center at Potsdamer Platz, one of Berlin’s renowned landmarks, currently accommodates Sony’s European headquarters as well as other Sony Group companies. “Relocating from Cologne to Berlin, the capital of Germany, will allow Sony Germany to gain more momentum and competitiveness and to further enhance the current positive sales trend“, says Manfred Gerdes, Managing Director of Sony Deutschland GmbH. Sony Germany will also implement a restructuring of its current workforce by spring 2006.

Leica sales grow : The Leica Camera Group, Solms, has closed the first half year of fiscal 2005/2006 with sales growing by 6.7 % on the previous year period, to € 48.0 million. The largest sales growth was recorded by the binoculars, scopes and rangefinders of the Leica sports optics division, which increased by 34.4 % to € 17.7 million. The main driving force behind this positive development were the Leica Geovid BRF high performance binoculars with their integrated laser rangefinder. The integration of digital technology into the existing product range was also decisive for the 30.5 % growth experienced in the Leica system cameras division, which posted sales of € 16.6 million.

Furthermore, Samsung's brand, now ranked at No. 20 position among the top 100 global brands, has posted the biggest gain in value of any global brand with a 186 per cent surge over the past five years. HP Intellectual Ink Cartridge Technology protected : HP, technology solutions provider to consumers and businesses globally, notified Cartridge World North America that it has discovered infringements of an HP ink patent in inks sold by multiple Cartridge World franchisees. The infringements were discovered as part of ongoing worldwide testing and enforcement efforts within HP's Imaging and Printing Group in order to protect its intellectual property rights. In March 2005, the same initiative also uncovered ink patent infringements in certain InkCycle cartridges sold under the Staples brand. HP and InkCycle quickly resolved the matter after InkCycle changed its ink formulations.

Lexar Media award affirmed by final judgement : Lexar announced that the trial court has entered final judgment in Lexar Media, Inc. v. Toshiba Corporation et al. In entering the judgment, the Superior Court for the State of California affirmed the jury verdict delivered in March in the case against Toshiba Corporation and Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. in which the jury awarded Lexar over $465 million in damages based on Toshiba Corporation and Toshiba America Electronics Components' breach of fiduciary duty and theft of trade secrets from Lexar. Lexar was pleased that, after 6months of Toshiba's efforts to challenge the jury verdict, the Court has rejected those challenges and entered judgment confirming that verdict."
