2006 International CES displays mobile electronics : The latest in automotive technology including car audio and video, navigation systems, satellite radio, security and telematics will be on display at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow, January 5-8, 2006, in Las Vegas, Nevada. "With more than 300 mobile electronics exhibitors, the International CES is the world's largest showcase for in-car technologies," said Karen Chupka, vice president of events and conferences at the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the producer of the International CES. The majority of mobile electronics exhibitors are located in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center.

MP3 players & digital cameras popular under teens : According to a study released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), portable MP3 players rank as the most wanted gift among teens this holiday season. Seventeen percent of teenagers in the study selected the device as a desired gift, a 9 percent increase over 2003. Video game consoles, computers, portable gaming devices and cell phones rounded out the top five on teens' technology wish lists. "With portable music players in high demand and the next generation of video game consoles set to launch, teens are clear about what they want this holiday season," said Sean Wargo, CEA's director of industry analysis.

Consumer electronic sales rises by 9% : Digital cameras, flat panels, communications devices and MP3 players continue to drive consumer electronics (CE) industry sales growth as evidenced in figures released today by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) in its revised U.S. Consumer Electronics Sales and Forecast Report. According to Market Research, total CE factory-to-dealer sales in 2005 are projected to increase 9% on revenues of $123 billion. CEA reported that final year-end figures indicate total industry sales grew 10% in 2004, totaling $113 billion in revenues. Camera phones won't replace digital cameras : Even as they increase in popularity, camera phones are not likely to replace digital cameras and camcorders as consumers' primary picture taking device, according to a study recently released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), which found that some 91 percent of digital camera owners consider their digital camera to be their main photography device. CEA's "Digital Imaging Study: Sharing and Storing Pictures and Video," also revealed that consumers are unaware of the need to archive their digital photos and video - an issue of increasing importance as the penetration rate for digital cameras nears 50 percent with those camera owners snapping billions of pictures each year.

Online purchases of digital cameras increases : Online shopping for consumer electronics products is gaining in popularity according to "The Demographics of Online vs. In-Person CE Shopping," a study recently released by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA). While an average of five percent of all consumer electronics purchases are made online, certain product categories - including personal computing, digital cameras, wireless home networking devices and portable music players - each sell more than 10 percent of product through online channels. According to more than 1,000 U.S. adults surveyed by CEA, online CE shoppers report higher satisfaction with the purchase process than those who visited traditional stores.
