Lexar unveils new USB card form factor

Lexar Media today announced a new USB card form factor designed for universal and superior interoperability to bring next generation storage, connectivity and utility products to a broad variety of computing, consumer electronics and mobile electronics devices. The new USB card form factor is based on the USB Type A connector as outlined in the Universal Serial Bus Specification. A mere 12 millimeters wide, 4.5 millimeters high and 31.75 millimeters long the card is no longer than the diameter of a penny. At half the width and a little more than twice the height, it is volumetrically similar to an SD card. The rugged, sturdy metal housing is intended to make the USB card suitable for use in a range of environments.


Lexar offers ActiveMemory Technology to companies

Lexar Media will offer a royalty-free license for its ActiveMemory System technology to digital camera and other consumer electronics manufacturers and software developers interested in providing their customers with unique workflow features and benefits. Previewed in September 2004, Lexar's AMS technology is designed to optimize digital workflow to achieve enhanced interoperability between consumer electronics and flash memory cards. "Created with professional photographers in mind and essentially adding intelligence to our flash memory cards, ActiveMemory is a revolutionary technology designed and engineered for image and information management needs," said Petro Estakhri, Chief Technology Officer, Lexar.


Lexar unveils Pro Cards with Encryption Technology

Lexar revealed plans to incorporate encryption technology into its Pro CompactFlash and, in conjunction with technology-compatible digital cameras, will provide users with a secure digital media solution. Professionals photographers and other security conscious users worldwide will have added confidence knowing that access to stored images and information is protected by a high-end encryption code technology. Central to this unique security solution is an easy-to-use software tool for establishing security settings on the memory card and corresponding digital camera. Digital content stored on the memory card can only be accessed via the digital camera(s) with the corresponding encryption key or via a PC with a valid username and password.


Lexar Media introduces JumpDrive Traveler 2.0

During the CeBIT 2004 show in Hannover, Germany, Lexar Media introduced a software enhancement for its popular JumpDrive Traveler USB flash drive. JumpDrive Traveler 2.0 offers expanded product capabilities including support for Microsoft Outlook. For customers purchasing the original JumpDrive Traveler, a software upgrade will be available for download from Lexar's web site free of charge in April. According to Dave Klenske, Director of Product Marketing, "JumpDrive Traveler delivers a unique set of features to users who require professional-level portability. Our customers appreciate knowing that their information goes with them when they leave a remote location."


Lexar Media announces 8GB CompactFlash type II

During PMA Lexar Media announced its 8GB Professional Series CompactFlash card. Lexar's new 8GB CompactFlash card delivers a 40X speed-rating, signifying a minimum sustained write speed capability of 6MB/s. By maintaining a close alignment with manufacturers who offer high-end digital cameras that create high-resolution files, which can be over 8MB each, Lexar's new 8GB memory card meets the needs of professional photographers who require capacity, speed and reliability. However pricing of the Card is not official yet, unofficial prices are $3000. We don't see any market for it yet, prices will have to decrease drastically before cards like the 8GB will gain any interest at all.


Lexar Media announces 80X Professional CF cards

Lexar Media doubled the minimum sustained write speed capability of its Professional Series CompactFlash (CF) product line to 80X, or 12MB per second. Lexar is offering its 80X Professional Series CompactFlash cards in five different capacities, including 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB and 4GB. Lexar Media today also announced an 8GB 40X Professional Series CompactFlash card, extending the company's CF line with the highest capacity CompactFlash card on the market. Lexar's new 80X CF cards include an enhanced version of Write Acceleration technology, which optimizes the cards' firmware to reduce overhead associated with transferring data from the camera to the memory card and improves in-camera performance in high-resolution CF based cameras.


Lexar Media introduces High Speed 60X SD

Lexar Media introduced Secure Digital (SD) memory cards speed-rated at 60X, which signifies a minimum sustained write speed capability of 9MB per second. Lexar's high-speed Secure Digital memory cards are ideal for digital imaging applications requiring sustained high speed, such as shooting digital photographs in high resolution burst mode and shooting digital video. Secure Digital cards are popular in digital photography and digital video applications, which require extremely fast and reliable memory card performance. If the memory card in a digital camcorder or digital still camera with video capture mode is too slow, the device will slow down or stop recording to wait for the information to clear the camera buffer.


Lexar Media announces 2GB JumpDrive 2.0 Pro

The increased storage capacity of the JumpDrive 2.0 Pro is supported by a 40X speed rating which signifies a minimum read/write speed of 6MB/sec, and positions the JumpDrive 2.0 Pro line as an ideal USB storage solution for people who require high-speed data transfer, high capacity and reliable performance. Lexar Media's complete line of JumpDrive portable USB flash drives allow users to conveniently store, carry and transfer files that are often too large to fit on other media such as CD's and Zip drives, as is the case with many presentation, image, and music files. A 2GB JumpDrive is equivalent to the capacity of over 1,400 floppy disks.
