UNEP launches International Photographic Contest

Professionals and amateurs alike are today being urged to unclip their dust caps and load up their cameras for the world's biggest environmental photo competition. As part of the annual World Environment Day celebrations in Barcelona, Spain, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is launching its fourth International Photographic Competition on the Environment, sponsored once again by Canon Inc. Nineteen launches in addition to Barcelona are planned in key cities and centres around the globe including Beirut, Buenos Aires, Dakar, Berlin, New York and Tokyo. The competition, called "Focus on Your World" and centred on the theme "Celebrating Diversity," will run until 24 October, 2004 and is open to all nationalities and ages.


Canon launches new MVX20 Series camcorders

Canon announces its 2.2 Megapixel MVX20i (12x zoom) and MVX25i (14x zoom) camcorders. The MVX20 Series delivers high quality movies, and can also be used to take still photographs, with digital still specifications and functionality comparable to that of many 2 Megapixel digital still cameras. Canon's DIGIC DV processor provides split path video and still image processing while an RGB Primary Colour Filter ensures warm, vivid colour reproduction. The camcorders have a stylish new robust design, with a highly polished, sculptured exterior. Their curved, easy holding grip and one touch operation afford users unprecedented ease of use. The MVX20i and MVX25i will be available from the end of June 2004.


Canon introduces new PowerShot S60 camera

It has been a while ago Canon introduced the latest Powershot S-series. Today Canon unveils its latest 5.0 Megapixel compact digital still camera, the PowerShot S60. A comprehensive array of technology firsts for the S-Series includes new lens materials which allow a reduction in lens size, enabling an elegantly sleek body shape. Also new for the S-Series is the 28-100mm (5.8-20.7mm, equivalent to 28-100mm on 35mm film ) focal length lens with 4cm macro, simultaneous RAW and JPEG file recording, optional 2x tele-converter and a 40m depth waterproof case. The camera includes a new pre-set white balance mode for underwater photography, Print/Share button, 15 second to 1/2000 sec shutter speeds, and a new user interface.


Canon announces new CanoScan 5200F scanner

Canon announces the 2400x4800 dpi, 48-bit colour depth CanoScan 5200F film and document scanner. A 6-frame Film Adapter Unit (FAU) allows high volume film scanning. Dust and scratches on spoiled film are automatically detected and removed with Canon’s highly accurate infra-red FARE Level 2 technology. A striking, sleek new design matches the scanner's strong technical specifications. Many of the CanoScan 5200F's features are designed to save time. An enlarged FAU allows up to six 35mm unmounted negatives or four 35mm mounted slides to be scanned in a single operation. A USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection works together with a new, faster scanning engine to deliver excellent scan speeds on both Windows and Mac operating systems.


New Canon Optura 30 and Optura 40 camcorders

Canon's new Photo Printers CP-220 and CP-330

Canon's new Compact Photo Printers CP-220 and CP-330 allow consumers to print pictures quickly, easily and directly from a digital camera, virtually anywhere. Canon's small and stylish CP photo printers now print high-quality color prints in three different paper sizes from a computer via USB or by direct camera-to-printer connection. These sizes include 4" x 8" for personalized greeting cards or invitations; 4" x 6" postcard size or credit-card size pictures. The Canon Compact Photo Printers CP-220 and CP-330 dye-sub printers allow users to create crisp, vibrant postcard-sized color prints in approximately 85 seconds (print speed based on average output speed achieved during product testing with Canon PowerShot digital cameras.


Canon launches 13x19 INCH desktop photo printer

Canon's i9900 desktop photo printer empowers consumers, photo enthusiasts and working photographers to make their own professional quality borderless photo prints. The 13 x 19-inch inkjet printer features new red and green ink cartridges for rich, accurate colour rendition, industry leading 4800 x 2400 dpi (resolution may vary based on printer driver setting) maximum colour resolution, microscopic 2 picoliter ink droplets, as well as USB 2.0 Hi-speed and Firewire interfaces. The i9900 desktop photo printer will be available in May for a suggested list price $499.99 (prices subject to change at any time). The i9900 photo printer is the first in its class to offer eight individual ink tanks.


Canon releases entry-level 3.2 MP PowerShot A310

Canon who made an impressive introduction some weeks ago of their new DSLR announces a whole bunch of new digital cameras today. Among them is the 3.2 Megapixel PowerShot A310. With a new Print/Share button and extended print functionality, the camera replaces the PowerShot A300. Although targeted at consumers looking for an easy-to-use camera, many features found in Canon's high-end cameras have been included to ensure that image quality and flexibility is maintained. These include Canon's highly responsive and award winning dedicated DIGIC processor for superb colour rendering and high image quality, a 5.1x digital zoom, movie clips and 5-point AiAF auto-focus with 5cm macro close-up.
