The 2.5 gigapixel photo - made in the Netherlands

Dennis Hissink : 2004-11-16 09:45:32
TNO has produced the largest digital panoramic photo in the world. So, what do we mean by large? After all, modern consumer cameras can easily take a picture with 5 million pixels. Well, we are talking about a photo of completely different dimensions. One with 2.5 billion pixels - that's 500 times more pixels. If this photo were printed, it would measure 6.67 m by 2.67 m (300 dpi). The photograph shows Delft and its surroundings in the autumn of 2004. It was taken the top of the Electrical Engineering faculty of Delft University, at a height of about 100 m, by TNO. The 2.5 gigapixel image is a composition of images rather than a single image. TNO developed a sophisticated approach to merge the many images - all 600 of them.

Vodafone K.K. unveils 2MP mobile with 2x opt zoom!

Dennis Hissink : 2004-05-11 15:40:14
Is this the beginning of the end of the traditional camera manufacturer's market share of 2 Megapixel resolution cameras? Today Vodafone K.K. announces the development of an interesting new mobile. The V602SH by Sharp is scheduled to go on sale in the second half of 2004 in Japan. The V602SH is the world's first (as of May 10, 2004) mobile handset to feature an optical zoom function. Combined with its high specification 2.02 Megapixel auto focus CCD camera the V602SH approaches the easy-of-use of true digital cameras without compromising the size and functionality of current mobile handsets. To achieve this, the V602SH uses a 'swivel style' design that allows the LCD screen to be reversed 180 degrees.
