Digital camera sales to nearly 53 Million in 2004

A new study from InfoTrends Research Group projects that worldwide unit sales of consumer digital cameras will reach nearly 53 million in 2004. Furthermore, digital camera sales are expected to experience a CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of 15% over the next four years, reaching 82 million units in 2008. In 2004, worldwide unit sales of consumer digital cameras are expected to surpass unit sales of worldwide film cameras. "Digital cameras are becoming an essential communications device for consumers," says Michelle Slaughter, Director of Digital Photography Trends. "Consumers are becoming accustomed to the immediacy of digital photography and are integrating digital photos into their daily communications with friends and for work."

SMaL Camera Technologies, a developer of electronic imaging solutions and the enabler of award-winning super-thin digital still cameras, announced today that it was named the #1 Rising Star on the prestigious Deloitte Technology Fast 500, a ranking of the 500 fastest growing technology companies in North America. The Rising Star award is a special designation for fast-growth technology companies that have been in business for three or four years. Rankings are based on average percentage of growth in revenues over three years (2000 – 2002). The company credits its success in large part to its first product, the Ultra-Pocket VGA with Autobrite, a 6mm thin credit-card size digital still camera.

We just received some information about the situation of Konica and Minolta in Europe. Konica and Minolta in Europe are under process of integration and change of the company name according to legal requirements on a country by country basis. Some of the European companies have completed their corporate registration as of October 1st, 2003. Newly integrated companies have reorganised their operations in the fields of Business Technologies Products, Photo Imaging and Camera. Medical Graphic business and Instruments Systems are reorganised in newly established Photo Imaging and Camera companies. The newly integrated European headquarters plan to complete their legal registration in January 2004. Details are as follows:

SanDisk announces support acquisition of Divio

SanDisk announced today that it plans to support ESS Technology's acquisition of Divio, Inc. SanDisk made a $7.2 million strategic investment in Divio, a privately held company based in Sunnyvale, and held a seat on Divio's Board of Directors. The acquisition by ESS Technology, a leading supplier of silicon solutions for digital video and audio consumer electronics, was announced earlier today. Eli Harari, president and CEO of SanDisk, said, "We are very pleased with the acquisition of Divio by ESS Technology. We believe Divio's engineering team has developed a top notch IC technology for low cost, highly efficient compression using their advanced MPEG-4 compression algorithms."
