Lexar samples first 8Gb NAND Flash from Samsung

Lexar Media, Inc., a leading designer, developer and marketer of high-performance digital media and accessories, today announced that the company has begun sampling Samsung Electronics' first 8Gb NAND flash memory device. The new high-density chips, combined with Lexar Media's next-generation controller technology, will enable Lexar Media to increase the performance and storage capacity of its award winning memory cards and USB flash drives. "Photographers consistently demonstrate an insatiable appetite for fast, high-capacity digital storage and our close relationship with Samsung allows us to be the first to deliver it," said Eric Stang, chairman, president and CEO, Lexar Media.


Lexar begins miniSD retail shipments in Japan

Lexar Media, Inc., a leading manufacturer and marketer of high-performance digital media and accessories, today announced that the company has introduced the Lexar Media miniSD card, and retail shipments are beginning today in Japan. miniSD is an extension of the Secure Digital (SD) memory format designed to offer flash-based storage for devices with limited internal space for removable memory. To meet these demands, miniSD occupies approximately 60 percent less area in a host device than the standard Secure Digital card. miniSD is specifically designed for the mobile phone market, which is increasingly adding storage intensive applications to phones including digital cameras, digital video, MP3 players, PDA's, games and email.


Olympus supports Lexar Write Acceleration (WA)

Lexar Media Inc. today announced that Olympus has joined the growing number of top-tier camera manufacturers now supporting Lexar Media’s Write Acceleration (WA) technology in professional digital SLR cameras. On June 24, 2003, Olympus introduced the E-1, which is the first Olympus camera to incorporate Lexar Media’s WA technology. Write Acceleration technology works to reduce the overhead required to store images to memory cards and results in faster write speed performance. The Olympus E-1 also supports the FAT32 file system and features a CompactFlash Type II slot, which enables the camera to take advantage of Lexar Media’s new 4GB CompactFlash card. The Olympus E-1 SLR camera is expected to be on the market around October 2003.


Lexar expands MS line with MS Duo and MS PRO Duo

The newly introduced Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick PRO Duo are one-third the volume and one half the weight of a standard Memory Stick, which makes them ideal for mobile phones, compact digital cameras and mobile electronic devices. Lexar Media’s Memory Stick Duo and Memory Stick PRO Duo will integrate the company’s proprietary controller technology to achieve advanced speed performance. The Memory Stick Duo offered by Lexar Media will be available in capacities of 32MB, 64MB and 128MB.

Lexar Media WA supported by Sigma SD9 SLR camera

Lexar Media, a leading designer, developer and marketer of award-winning high-performance digital media and accessories, today announced that the Sigma SD9 digital SLR camera, which features the FoveonÒ X3 image sensor, will support Lexar Media's Write Acceleration (WA) standard with a recently released firmware upgrade available on Sigma's Website. Write Acceleration technology is enabled by firmware residing in both the camera and CompactFlash card. When a WA enabled camera detects a WA enabled card, the two are able to transfer data with less overhead, thereby increasing write speed.Lexar Media introduced Write Acceleration in its Professional Series CompactFlash cards in September 2002.


Lexar Media and Olympus agree on xD Picture card

Lexar Media, a leading designer, developer and marketer of award-winning high-performance digital media and accessory products, and Olympus Optical Co., a world leader in the development and marketing of digital cameras, today announced a significant expansion of their relationship with the signing of a new OEM and technology licensing agreement. Under the new agreement, Lexar Media will now be offering xD-Picture Cards in Lexar packaging through many of its 37,000 worldwide retail outlets. Lexar Media has also agreed to license its patents to Olympus for the xD-Picture Cards and host devices sold to Olympus' retail customers or bundled with Olympus cameras. Lexar Media and Olympus also agreed to future joint technology development.
