SanDisk agrees with Olympus for xD Picture card

SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) today announced that it has signed a five-year agreement with Olympus Optical Co., Ltd. covering the xD-Picture Card™ format. Under the agreement, Olympus will be licensed to SanDisk's patents relating to xD flash cards and host devices. SanDisk will be licensed to manufacture xD-Picture Cards for Olympus as well as sell xD-Picture Cards under the Olympus brand through SanDisk's global retail distribution channels. SanDisk will begin shipments of xD-Picture Cards in selected regions beginning in June 2003, with worldwide availability in the third quarter, 2003. The xD-Picture Card is a flash memory card format developed and owned by Olympus, FujiFilm and Toshiba.


Toshiba and SanDisk announce new Flash development

Toshiba Corporation and SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) today announced development of a high density NAND flash memory cell structure that allows fabrication of 4-Gigabit (Gb) NAND flash memory using the 90-nanometer (nm) design rules. The new memory cell, has a physical cell area of only 0.041 micron squared, and supports scaling to future generations of smaller feature design rules. Toshiba and SanDisk have tested the new cell structure and demonstrated its performance and reliability. The two companies plan to employ the new NAND cell technology starting in the first half of 2004 with 2 and 4-Gigabit NAND flash memory chips that will be manufactured by their FlashVision Japan Joint Venture production facility located at Toshiba.


SanDisk and Sony expand their MS cooperation

SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK) and Sony Corporation (NYSE: SNE) today announced that the two companies have signed a cross licensing agreement. This agreement enhances the close relationship that SanDisk and Sony have built over the last two years since their initial September 2001 collaboration agreement to offer Memory Stick media. The initial agreement was followed by a January 2003 announcement highlighting joint SanDisk and Sony development of Memory Stick PRO media designed to realize new levels of performance, such as real-time recording of high-resolution moving images. SanDisk holds a right to manufacture Memory Stick PRO media, based on the January 2003 announcement. The cross licensing agreement enhances the relationship.


SanDisk start selling MiniSD card in Japan

SanDisk Corporation (NASDAQ:SNDK) announced today that it has started selling miniSD™ flash memory cards through retail stores in Japan making SanDisk the world\'s first company to sell the new small-size cards to retail consumers. Sales of the SanDisk miniSD cards, which started this month, come as the first mobile phones with slots for the card are entering the Japanese market. The new miniSD card format was introduced by SanDisk for sale to OEM customers in March 2003, and is being sold to consumers through retail outlets with a complementary adapter that converts the miniSD card into the SD card form factor. The adapter allows the miniSD card to fit into existing SD card slots.
