 Sigma DP1 Las Vegas test photo gallery : We have had the possibility of working with a preproduction model of the Sigma DP1 during the PMA. Most pictures are taken in the evening in the neighbourhood of "The Strip". Las Vegas is a 24/7 hour city and it keeps surprising me every year during our PMA outings, how many people are attracted to the glitter and glamour of it. The entourage remains typically Vegas-style; spectacular and lots of neon, good for some nice shooting moments. The Sigma DP1 camera is a camera with a special image sensor; a Foveon X3 with dimensions of 20.6 x 13.8 mm. It makes the Sigma DP1 the first compact camera that is equipped with a large sized sensor. Our test camera model is a preproduction model, expected to become available in March.

Sigma DP-1 - Las Vegas PMA booth
The Sigma DP1 will be available in spring 2008. Sigma of course were present with a large booth on the PMA 2008 in Las Vegas. In their booth they showed a large number of new lenses and various working Sigma DP1 cameras to the public. We laid hands on one of the samples and tried it out in the late-night hours in Las Vegas. Although the DP1 is not specifically a camera that will stand out for its high ISO pictures, the night shots came out excellently. But due to the preproduction status of the model we cannot conclude anything yet from the test photo gallery.
Sigma DP1 - Foveon X3 sensor
The Foveon X3 sensor of the Sigma DP1 delivers an excellent sharpness and beautiful colour reproduction. Although having worked with the camera very briefly, our first impression is a good one. The Sigma DP1 is a light compact camera with unique characteristics. It's a camera for the enthusiast photographer and not for the crowd. The Foveon X3 sensor is unique as to how it works, it's a one of a kind sensor in today's sensor industry. The Sigma booth showed various large prints made with the Sigma DP1, it's clearly visible that this camera performs on a high level.
Sigma DP1 test photo gallery made in Las Vegas
The Sigma DP1 photo gallery has been made in Las Vegas with a preproduction camera model and should be judged accordingly. The thumbnail and large size format pictures have been reduced to enable correct reproduction and compressed for a faster loading time. The original pictures have not been edited. As soon as a Sigma DP1 test sample comes available, we will publish an in-depth Sigma DP1 review.
