The Nikon D300 has recently become available and is receiving a lot of attention since then. And for a good reason listening to Jan's comments on the D300! Jan Vermeer has been shooting with the Nikon D2x for a while now but has to admit that the D300 has a lot to offer and that it turns out to be an ideal second body for the photographer he is for future projects. The Nikon D300 has been available since last November.

Nikon D300 Antarctica photos
The pictures in the article have been captured with Nikon equipment and mainly with the latest Nikon D300. The pictures speak for themselves and of course the unique and beautiful surroundings are an important factor and addition to the final outcome. Photographer Jan Vermeer frequently travels afar in the search for untouched wildlife. Intensive expeditions have been undertaken under the auspices of the Dutch photography office 'Foto Natura'. The Antarctica expedition requires a lot from the equipment; the cold temperature in the first place.

Jan Vermeer - Dutch Wildlife photographer
Jan has trusted his experiences with the Nikon D300 to paper and has delivered us his images and text. The report can be read in the German edition of LetsGoDigital. The circumstances Jan has worked in require a lot from the photographer and his equipment and it is greatly important the equipment doesn't fail the photographer. The Nikon D300-SLR passed with flying colours in every respect.

Antarctica expedition - Nikon D300 Test
The equipment Jan used for this test in practice contained of two camera bodies; one of which was mounted on the Nikon AF-S VR 70-200mm 1:2.8G. An AF-S Nikkor 500 mm 1:4D II, AF-S Nikkor 12-24mm 1:4 G ED, AF-S Nikkor 17-55mm 1:2.8 G ED, AF-S Nikon Tele converter TC-14E II and for extreme landscapes an AF Fisheye Nikkor 10.5mm 1:2.8 G ED. The new AF-S Nikkor 14-24mm 1:2.8G ED also got added to the equipment at the last minute. The weight and format of the equipment are extremely important for these kinds of expeditions. The Nikon D300 received a considerable amount of professional technique belonging to the D3 but housed in a reasonable compact sized DSLR housing. This is the perfect solution for photographers like Jan Vermeer! If I've made you curious about the exclusive report of Jan Vermeer's Antarctica expedition please visit our German edition. And if you don't understand the German language you will still be able to enjoy the astonishingly beautiful and impressing pictures Jan has made. Continue to read the full Nikon D300 Field Test.
