Zoom Experience 2007 : Finally on the 24th and 25th of November the Zoom Experience 2007 kicked off in Utrecht in the 'Jaarbeurs', situated in the centre of the Netherlands and thus easily accessible. The preparation of an event like this is not as easy as one sometimes thinks it is. There are many parties involved and all have to reach consensus about how an event like the Zoom Experience should be organized in order to make is successful. I attended this event and so did many others. The attendance was great, for some it may have been too crowded but for others it was like coming home. I ask you, when does it ever happen that no less than 17,500 active photographers, young and old, turn up at a photography event?

Zoom Experience 2008 - Exhibitors and Photo enthusiast
I can be brief; Zoom co-workers have had the guts to go for something and have been rewarded with a successful event. And it was that successful exhibitors said yes to Zoom Experience 2008 even on the first day! Also exhibitors that were not (fully) represented these two days are convinced of the legitimacy of an event like the Zoom Experience. I am not pushing it if I declare that the Zoom Experience was born in 2007 and is on its way to become a mature event with growth potential of welcoming every photo enthusiast in the next few years.

Zoom Experience 2007 - Visitors and Brands
Regarding the brands that were not or hardly represented I would like to comment on them shortly. For example a brand like Nikon Netherlands, owning a small corner through a dealer on the event, did miss an opportunity here. In my opinion they were absent and I find that a big mistake, more so when taking into account the new impressive assortment of DSLR cameras and lenses Nikon has to offer the active photographer. And exactly this photographer was the visitor of Zoom Experience 2007; the present and future consumer or user. Anyway, I found out in the mean time that everything will change next year and that this year's missing brands will be in on Zoom Experience 2008.

Zoom Experience photography event - Comments and Criticism
No word of criticism at all? Well, it was rather crowded and sometimes you had to wait longer than you'd have wanted and some brands could have entertained more lavishly. In addition you could say that the workshops could have been structured differently and a broader offer of so-called photo moments would have been nice too. But I am sure these issues will be evaluated and taken into account for the preparation of next year's Experience. The general comment of the exhibitors was they will certainly be there next year but more spectacularly and preferable with more available space.

Zoom Experience 2007 - Conclusion
I can picture the Monday morning at Zoom.nl, both editors and co-workers started their working week. Probably looked at each other with a big smile, looking back on a successful event; there are worse ways of starting the Monday…. I'd say: well done Zoom.nl for having the guts and the capacity to carry on even when luck was against them. Zoom.nl went full speed and accomplished what was impossible according to the critics; they established a successful event to be proud of and convinced every doubting Thomas that photography is very much alive in the Netherlands. On our way to Zoom Experience 2008….!
