PhotoxelsPanasonic FZ18 review at Photoxels : DIWA member Yin Wong from Photoxels has reviewed the Panasonic Lumix FZ18. The high-speed, high-performance image processing LSI is the Venus Engine III, which boasts shooting at ISO 1600 in normal recording mode and even max. ISO 6400 in high sensitivity mode. Effective resolution of the Panasonic FZ18 has been increased to 8.1 Megapixels, which supports the Extra Optical Zoom function, that provides additional magnification - even up to 28.7x when taking photos with 3-megapixel resolution. The 2.5-inch large, high resolution LCD with 207,000 pixels, and the large, 0.44-inch Electric Viewfinder with 188,000 pixels, make it easy to see when monitoring and playing back images.

Panasonic Lumix FZ18 Review
According to Yin Wong: "CA is not really a problem in everyday shots and well controlled even in very high contrast shots. The NR works quite well. The AF works very well in low-light, and the AF-assist Lamp makes for precise and fast focus lock [again, depends on how contrasty your subject is]. Remember that if your subject is too close, the AF-assist light will not light it because the lens barrel is in the way. Overall, very good to excellent image quality for a 8.1MP digital camera: sharp pictures, good image detail, beautiful colours, well-exposed.”

Yin Wong continues: “Once focus locks, it stays locked at that distance even when you remove your finger from the shutter button and recompose; when you press the shutter button fully to take a picture, focus seems to conveniently still stay locked at that particular distance making pre-focusing easy to use (unlike some digital cameras that insists in refocusing all over again). You can also use the AF/AE Lock button to lock focus. When using Manual Focus, the AF Macro/FOCUS button can be used as a One Shot AF function to prefocus.” You want to learn more about the Panasonic Lumix Megazoom camera? About Photoxels
Photoxels was founded in 2002 by MyKhanh Wong (Owner, Editor) and Yin Wong (Contributing Editor), the editors behind Photoxels. In 2001, we went on the Web to learn about digital cameras like everyone else. But it seems that the more we read about digital cameras, the more reviews we scrutinized, and the more we searched... the more confused we became. If we were somewhat confused about which digital cameras to buy before visiting the digital camera review sites, we became even more confused after reading most of the (very) technical reviews. Slowly, one article and one review at a time, we pieced together what were really important to know about digital cameras and clarified many of the digital photography-related terminology. We decided to share what we learned on the Internet, and Photoxels was born.
