 Underwater Imagery Event : Take a break from the hot and humid New York summer and enjoy an evening of underwater imagery and discussion. Two very special presentations include a short film from environmental documentary film maker Rick Morris, and a presentation from underwater photographer, founder of the popular underwater website; DivePhotoGuide and New York Underwater Photographic Society (NYUPS) President, Jason Heller. A call is out for image submission for random selection for display for the audience for an open review and discussion at the event. You can send up to 2 images that we will randomly select from for an open review session. You must be attending the Underwater Imagery event to submit your images.

Email images to review@nyups.org. Images will be renamed in a series of #'s and selected randomly for review. Please send images of approximately 1 - 2 Mb. Your images are not guaranteed to be reviewed in this meeting. Your images are secure and will not be used for any purpose other than this review at the meeting. Planning Your Shot by Jason Heller
So you're starting to get more serious about your photography. You want to improve your skills and create great images. Ever enter a contest? Thought about it maybe? Even if you don't plan on ever entering a competition, this presentation will help you learn more about how to create images versus simply taking pictures. You'll learn about the role of understanding animal behavior, good lighting, and composition, and we will reinforce some of the tried and true basic elements of underwater imagery, as well as some more innovative approaches. Come hear some tips and tricks on which images to submit to competitions and why. Then apply what you learn on your very next dive trip!
Saving the Dragon - A film by Rick Morris
This documentary presentation chronicles the efforts of the Nature Conservancy to establish a sustainable marine park in the Komodo Island Region of Indonesia. This area of the Coral Triangle is designated as a World Heritage Site and has been threatened by extremely destructive fishing practices. Producer/cameraman Rick Morris takes the viewers below and above the surface of this mysterious and unique biosphere to reveal the extraordinary aquatic environment and creatures that live there. Pygmy Sea Horses, XenoCrabs, Squat Lobsters, Crocodile Fish and many more, too numerous to mention, as well as getting up close and personal with the legendary Komodo Dragons, await the viewer for a truly unique entertaining and educational adventure. Narrated by Rick and Stan waterman, the film runs :35 and and provides the viewers with a real taste of diving Komodo.
A Mid-Summer Break With NYUPS
Admission to our August event, "A Mid-Summer Break With NYUPS" is free. As always, an open bar and networking hour will follow the featured presentations. An RSVP is required for the event. We usually have a full house and theater seating is limited. Please include your full name and city in the RSVP email.
