AppleiPhone searches increased : Hitwise, the leading online competitive intelligence service, announced that the volume of US searches for the term “iphone” increased 583 percent in the past four weeks (from the week ending May 26, 2007 to the week ending June 23) leading up to the June 29 launch date. The market share of US visits to the Apple iPhone website increased 185 percent in the same time period. The Apple iPhone website has been the number one website1 based on visits, in the Hitwise Computers and Internet - Electronics category - which lists websites focused on electronics products and electronics manufacturers - for the past three weeks starting with the week ending June 9, 2007.

In the four weeks leading up the release date, the most popular queries that contained the term “iphone” were focused on price, recent news, reviews and the release date. The search term “iphone price” received the largest percentage of searches outside of “iphone” and “apple iphone,” at 4.23 percent of all US searches containing the word “iphone.”

The top website to receive traffic from searches on the term “iphone” for the four weeks ending June 23, 2007 was the Apple iPhone website, receiving 54.44 percent of all US traffic from the term. Following Apple was its wireless partner, AT&T Wireless, which received 6.52 percent of search volume, Wikipedia, at 2.95 percent, Engadget at 2.80 percent and MySpace with 2.48 percent of search term traffic. The term “iphone” was the 131st most searched for term sending traffic to all US websites for the four weeks ending June 23, 2007. The term “iphone” was the fifth most popular search term sending visits to the AT&T Wireless website for the four weeks ending June 23, 2007.

Hitwise demographic data reveals that for the four weeks ending June 26, 2007, 32.22 percent of visitors to the Apple iPhone website were from users between the ages of 18-24 years, comprising the largest age group of visitors to the site. More than 54 percent of users to the website had incomes between $30,000 and $99,999 and 51 percent were Male for that same time period.
