Nikon Coolpix P5000 review : There were times when manufacturers competed in high-end digital compact cameras. They provided an interesting alternative to the much more expensive SLRs. The top model compact cameras operated in the same way as the DSLR cameras and offered great quality for that time. Since the introduction of inexpensive SLRs, high end compact cameras seemed obsolete. That ended last year, when Canon introduced the PowerShot G7. Quickly Nikon responded with the Coolpix P5000. On paper the Nikon P5000 seems like an ideal camera for the experienced photographer who does not want to carry the complete SLR equipment, but demands a lot from a camera. It is a nice, advanced compact camera with similar traits to a real SLR.

Nikon P5000 - 10 Megapixel resolution
The Nikon Coolpix P5000 combines stylish looks and a solid yet lightweight feel with a range of features that enable the user to explore creativity behind photography. With a 10 Megapixel resolution, the Nikon Coolpix P5000 is up to date with the latest trends. This resolution gives more than enough space to be able to make large prints or to edit the image extensively. For the advanced photographer it is also convenient that besides being able to do everything automatically, the camera’s aperture and shutter speed preferences can be operated manually.
Nikon P5000 - Vibration Reduction
Picture quality is further guaranteed by Vibration Reduction, which compensates for the blurring that can be caused by camera shake or lower light. A light sensitivity range up to ISO 3200 also enables the Nikon Coolpix P5000 to capture quality images of fast-moving subjects or poorly-lit scenes. ISO 3200 is available only for image sizes of 5 megapixels (2592 x 1944) or smaller.
Nikon Coolpix P5000 - Nikkor lens
A variety of lens options enable the experimental user to explore different ways to use the camera. The Nikon Coolpix P5000 comes equipped with the 36-126mm Zoom-Nikkor lens which delivers great results when shooting anything from portrait to panorama, and it can be swapped for the Telephoto Converter lens which extends the reach of the zoom to 378mm for long-distance shots, or the Wide-angle Converter lens which realises a focal length of 24mm.
Nikon Coolpix P5000 compact camera review
The Nikon Coolpix P5000 camera now has everything in store to serve as an attractive alternative to the bulkier DSLR. Even the seasoned photographer will be satisfied with this 10 Megapixel compact camera. We had the Nikon Coolpix P5000 with us for a while so that we could test it extensively. Our findings can be read in the next Nikon Coolpix P5000 review.
