PNYSolid State Drives at Computex : PNY Technologies, Inc. introduced its new solid state drive (SSD) lineup, on pace to replace traditional hard disk drives (HDD) currently used in all notebook and desktop PCs. Configured with NAND flash chips, PNY’s SSDs are a drop-in replacement that greatly improves system performance, enhances ruggedness, and uses less energy in all notebooks and mobile electronics devices that allow for a traditional 2.5” or 1.8” hard disk drive. PNY’s SSD offering includes commercial and industrial options as well as capacities up to 128GB for its 2.5" version and 64GB for its 1.8" drive. The 2.5" versions feature the PATA-based 44-pin IDE and SATA connectors.

“Solid state drive technology expertise will become increasingly important in the coming years as prices become more affordable and understanding of nonvolatile memory becomes more widespread in computing environments,” said Joseph Unsworth, principal research analyst with Gartner. “Enhanced performance and greater durability will be among the most important attributes attractive to a variety of enterprise and consumer vertical markets.”

Solid State Drives - 66MBps & 55MBps
PNY’s SSD line provides a wide range of industry standard connectors to choose from. Features include targeted read and write speeds up to 66MBps and 55MBps respectively; enhanced power efficiency; and increased durability. The 1.8" versions feature the popular PATA-based "ZIF" connector as well as the first-to-market SATA-based, "Micro SATA" connector. “PNY is a serious contender in the SSD space, offering a broad range of products with industry leading speeds and capacities,” said Jason Breakstone, product manager, solid state drives for PNY Technologies. “Because of our capability to manufacture the drives in-house, we can build-to-order on a wide-range of SSD products and provide individual attention to each of our customers.”

Solid State Drives from PNY - Price & Availability
With pricing for its 32GB drive starting around $350 for large volume orders, PNY’s 2.5” SSDs are available now to computer manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers alike. PNY’s 1.8” and 2.5” SSDs, with capacities up to 64GB and 128GB, respectively, will be available in the third quarter 2007. Members of the press and tradeshow attendees are invited to learn about PNY’s new SSD product line at the 2007 Computex International Information Technology Show in Taipei, Taiwan from June 5th through June 9th. Additional PNY solutions to be featured at Computex Taipei 2007 include its flash memory cards, USB flash drives, memory upgrades as well as VGA cards.
