Current photos of the May 2007 Kentucky Derby winning horse, Street Sense, from last Saturday, May 5th, are already up on The Blood-Horse Photo site. Jockey Calvin Borel dramatically guided his winning horse from 19th place among 20 horses to win the $2 million Kentucky Derby by only 2¼ lengths. After five attempts, it was the first Kentucky Derby victory for the 40-year-old jockey from Louisiana. After winning the Kentucky Derby, Borel added another first to his list - he was invited to attend a state dinner at the White House in honor of Queen Elizabeth II.

The recent story of the injury and attempted, though ultimately unsuccessful, recovery of Barbaro was an example of Thoroughbred enthusiasts employing The Blood-Horse Photo Store as a means of connecting with this emotional event. Anne M. Eberhart, chief photographer of The Blood-Horse, said, “Barbaro attracted fans from around the world. His fight to survive was inspiring and when the time was right, he was allowed to die with dignity. There is no consolation other than to know that you did everything you could for your animal. And it’s nice to have photos of the good memories.”
