CanonCanon celebrates Earth Day 2007 : In the spirit of its corporate philosophy of kyosei and its continued commitment to a sustainable environment, Canon U.S.A, Inc., is host a number of Earth Day activities at its Long Island, N.Y., headquarters. The Canon 2007 Earth Day celebration features Eyes on Yellowstone - an educational and research program, sponsored by Canon U.S.A., PBS NATURE series (supported by Canon U.S.A. since 1990); the Canon National Parks Science Scholars Program (the only program that encourages doctoral students to conduct innovative research on scientific problems critical to national parks); and Canon Envirothon (North America’s largest high school environmental education competition).

Organizations that will join Canon U.S.A. management and employees for Earth Day at the Company’s headquarters include the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center in Oyster Bay, N.Y.; Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium in Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.; The New York Botanical Garden, Bronx, N.Y.; and the National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF), based in Washington, D.C. As part of the festivities, several presentations will also take place, including a behind-the-scenes look at "The Making of a NATURE Show" by Fred Kaufman, Thirteen/WNET New York executive producer for the award-winning PBS series, and an up-close look at wildlife, as presented by the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center.

Environmental programs and activities
"Canon’s environmental conservation programs and its recycling and waste reduction programs have been developed in the spirit of the company’s philosophy of kyosei - all people, regardless of race, religion, or culture, harmoniously living and working together into the future," said William Reed, senior vice president and general manager, Corporate Communications, Canon U.S.A. "At this year’s Earth Day festivities, we want to celebrate with our colleagues the breadth and scope of Canon’s support for environmental programs and activities."

National Environmental Education Week
Canon also supports the single largest environmental education event in the United States - National Environmental Education Week, April 15-22, 2007. The weeklong learning event, sponsored by Canon U.S.A. and coordinated by NEEF, involved more than four million students at over 1,500 schools, nature centers, zoos, aquaria and other educational institutions nationwide. In addition to the above mentioned programs, Canon participates in the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Program, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WasteWise, ENERGY STAR and SmartWays Transport Partnership programs.
