Railway museum photos taken with Nikon CoolPix P5000 : When testing the Nikon Coolpix P5000 digital compact camera, I took it along when I visited a piece of Dutch railway history, the Railway museum in Utrecht. The Railway museum is located in the Maliebaan station and gives visitors a glimpse of the past. Most of the test pictures were taken inside the museum, including a large depot where diverse trains stand established. The lighting conditions were full of contrast; darkness between the trains with spots of sunlight from the roof here and there. Although the Nikon Coolpix P5000 compact camera has an optical image stabilizer, I had to use a high ISO regularly to achieve the desired shutter speed or aperture.

The Nikon P5000 photo camera is a handy compact digital camera for photographers who ask a lot of their camera. It may not be a replacement for a DSLR camera, but it does have settings for photographers who like to determine a shot themselves, such as aperture and shutter speed priority. The image stabilizer is always on in an environment like the Railway museum. Taking photographs of such large objects often requires a large depth of field and cannot be done with a low ISO and image stabilisation without long shutter speeds.

The sample images were made with a production model of the Nikon Coolpix P5000 camera and must be judged accordingly. The thumbnail format and large format pictures have been reduced for easy viewing and compressed in order to guarantee quicker loading times. The larger images are the original, unprocessed images. The new Nikon P5000 is one of the digital compact cameras that have been nominated for a test in the next few weeks. We are currently testing several cameras and will publish a complete Nikon Coolpix P5000 review as soon as we have finished with this model.
