CanonCanon Multifunctional embedded application platform : Canon USA, Inc., and Rochester Software Associates, Inc,, announced that RSA will license Canon’s innovative Multifunctional Embedded Application Platform (MEAP) Software Developers Kit to design and develop a customizable remote hardcopy job submission application for Canon imageRunner devices. With the new MEAP application, users will be able to simply scan and submit jobs, including finishing and billing preferences, to their internal print center directly from a Canon imageRunner device. The planned MEAP based application will complement and extend the capabilities of RSA’s existing suite of print center-centric workflow applications.

“We are proud to expand upon our existing relationship with RSA through development on the MEAP platform. RSA’s heritage in the production printing marketplace, coupled with the convenience afforded users through their MEAP application, is yet another example of how Canon and its partners are enhancing user workflow,” said Dennis Amorosano, director and general manager, Solutions Business Development Division, Canon USA, Inc. “RSA’s MEAP application will significantly enhance customer print shop workflow, making accessing the services of in-house print shops easier than ever before.

“We have experienced a very high level of interest in our automated scan to print center solution that includes complete electronic job ticketing and print production management,” said Timothy Kelly, senior vice president, RSA. “The Canon imageRunner devices are a great fit because they meet the needs for scanning and production printing in the print center and the MEAP platform provides a high level of flexibility for the user interface.”

Canon imageRunner - MFP software
Canon was the first manufacturer in the industry to launch an MFP software development platform in 2003. The Java-based MEAP development environment provides a platform for the creation of unique applications, simplifying the interaction between users and Canon’s devices, while tying tightly into a user’s specific workflow. Since the introduction of MEAP, Canon has been working with third-party software vendors, customers and dealers to develop customized document workflow tasks on Canon imageRunner MFPs. MEAP based applications are currently in use by organizations in the legal, hospitality, education and healthcare markets.
