SanDiskSecure Content on SanDisk Flash Memory Cards : SanDisk announced that the i-mode Alliance, which consists of 18 mobile network providers around the globe1, has selected SanDisk’s TrustedFlash technology as the preferred solution for securely pre-loading and downloading premium content on removable flash memory cards in mobile phones that use i-mode mobile Internet services outside of Japan. The announcement was made at 3GSM World Congress, where SanDisk is exhibiting its mobile products at Spain’s Fira de Barcelona exhibition grounds. TrustedFlash memory cards for i-mode phones will be sold through mobile phone and electronics stores in the countries where the service is available, and will be offered on SanDisk microSD cards.

SanDisk’s TrustedFlash currently is available on SanDisk microSD flash memory cards that fit into slots on i-mode enabled handsets. TrustedFlash secures premium content to the card itself so that consumers can easily move their purchased entertainment - such as music and movies - to another i-mode phone simply by transferring the card. This allows users to store more of their premium and personal content as well as upgrade to new enabled mobile phones without abandoning their files.

SanDisk TrustedFlash technology
More than 53 million people across the globe subscribe to i-mode services, which are currently available in 16 countries/regions of Asia-Pacific and Europe: Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan and the UK. Now available to all i-mode Alliance members outside of Japan, TrustedFlash is launching initially in Europe. The first company to incorporate TrustedFlash into its network is French i-mode operator Bouygues Telecom, which started offering SanDisk TrustedFlash cards to its customers late last year.

i-mode Alliance
“The TrustedFlash card is one of the key elements of the i-mode Alliance strategy toward the mass adoption of its multimedia services,” said Takeshi Natsuno, NTT DoCoMo’s senior vice president responsible for the i-mode Alliance. “It brings more value to end-users, enabling them to carry content everywhere allowed while protecting the assets of the service providers and providing the maximum flexibility for the mobile operator. TrustedFlash is an important marketing tool to increase revenue from the i-mode services and the operator stores,” he added. “With TrustedFlash now used by the i-mode Alliance, we expect this technology to quickly become a standard,” said Yoram Cedar, SanDisk’s executive vice president of mobile handset business and corporate engineering. “And we believe that mobile phone manufacturers will leverage SanDisk’s TrustedFlash card to create more value for end users and to accelerate the adoption of mobile content services,” he added.

Secure Digital Memory
TrustedFlash cards also come with advanced mechanisms targeted to increase online revenue for a network operator. When activated by the handset, a menu from the card helps users navigate to premium content or to various online services. Also, content that is preloaded on a SanDisk TrustedFlash enabled card can take a user to the online associated service.
