Sony DCR-HC48 camcorder : With such a wide variety of DV editing software in the marketplace, serious video editors are drawn to mini DV tape camcorders. Sony is introducing a new tape-based model with feature sets to suit beginners and advanced camcorder users. The new Sony DCR-HC48 miniDV camcorder features one Megapixel digital still photo capture, a 25x optical zoom, a wide 16:9 aspect ratio LCD screen, a new on-screen usage guide, and a supplied Handycam Station for a quick, one-time connection to a TV, PC or printer. The Sony HC48 mini DV model delivers a combination of Carl Zeiss optics, Sony's high-resolution CCD imaging technology, and long battery life. The Sony DCR-HC48 will also be available in February for about $400.

Sony HC48 miniDV - Availability
MiniDV is one of three common digital formats used in sound and picture recording. Using digital technology, MiniDV captures video and audio on high-density cassette tapes. This format is very popular, as it delivers sound and video that is decidedly sharp and high quality. All of the new camcorders, among them the new Sony DCR-HC48 minDV camcorder, will be available online at sonystyle.com, at Sony Style retail stores (sonystyle.com/ retail) around the country, and at authorized dealers nationwide. Pre-orders will begin online on Jan. 8 at sonystyle.com/handycam.

The Sony HC48 features a 1/6" Advanced HAD (Hole Accumulation Diode) CCD with 690K (effective) pixels provides stunning detail and clarity with exceptional video (up to 520 lines of horizontal resolution) and still image performance. The Megapixel technology enhances your digital videos and digital still photography performance. Carl Zeiss lenses have an advanced optical multi-layer coating that offers less glare and flare with increased contrast. This results in vivid image brilliance, true-to-life color saturation and perfect renditions of subtle tones.

Provides excellent viewing clarity for both 16:9 and 4:3 aspect with improved resolution. The high resolution 123K pixel LCD screen rotates up to 270 degrees for multiple viewing angles providing sharp, detailed images for monitoring or playback. Picture stabilization system that uses motion sensors to detect and compensate for camera "shake" without compromising picture quality like some other digital stabilization systems.
