Nikon Coolpix S9 review at PhotographyBLOG : DIWA member Mark Goldstein from PhotographyBLOG has reviewed the Nikon S9 digital camera. The Nikon Coolpix S9 compact camera features a 1/2.5-inch CCD that offers enhanced precision and 6.1-effective Megapixel image resolution. The Nikon S9 offers 15 Scene modes that can produce great-looking shots in a wide range of common conditions, with 4 of the modes also offering Scene assist to promote more pleasing composition. In-Camera Red-Eye Fix can automatically overcome the red-eye effect sometimes caused by flash, and Nikon's D-Lighting that can rescue underexposed images or shots with too much back light. The Nikon S9 has the advantage of a generous 153,600-dot, 2.5-inch LCD display.

Nikon S9 camera - Image quality
According to Mark Goldstein: "The Nikon Coolpix S9 dealt quite well with chromatic aberrations, with limited purple fringing appearing only in high contrast situations. Macro performance is about average, allowing you to focus as close as 4cms away from the subject. The built-in flash worked well indoors, with a tiny amount of red-eye and slight under-exposure. The D-Lighting feature works very well with the right images, balancing out the shadow and highlight areas nicely, although at the expense of introducing extra noise."
Nikon Coolpix S9 digital camera - Design and Operation
Mark continues: "The distinctive all-metal, wave-design body make the S9 clearly stand out from the crowd of other faceless digicams. Unfortunately the average performance, feature-set and image quality are rather less inspiring. The main flies in the ointment are blurred corners and vignetting at the 38mm wide-angle focal length, poor night shots and a limited ISO range of 64-400. As the S9 is strictly a point and shoot camera, it offers very little in the way of creative controls, but it's perfectly suited to its target audience." About PhotographyBLOG
Mark Goldstein started his very active website PhotographyBLOG in January 2003. At first the one and only purpose was to let this site function as one of those popular web logs with Photography as main topic. But as we all know Photography is a pretty big subject to publish about so Mark decided to focus on some hot key points like mentioning all new introductions, reviews, reports from events like PMA and Photokina, sharing some impressive and creative photos and Mark's sole perspective of his feeling about this fascinating world of Digital Imaging. Mark is based in the UK, but his eagle-eye focuses global.
