LeicaLeica Digilux 2 customer service : Leica Camera AG is offering all owners of the Leica Digilux 2 digital camera a customer service free of charge even beyond the stated warranty period. Specifically, this refers to exchanging the digital camera's sensor in the case of a rarely occurring malfunction. Leica Camera AG has opted for this extended warranty due to the fact that there have been a few reports of this malfunction caused by faulty manufacturing which also affects some other makes' cameras. Prolonged use of the camera in tropical climate conditions has occasionally led to effects such as black stripes in the image or even a totally black image. The Leica Digilux 2 digital camera was introduced in 2003.

This malfunction can be the result of sensors whose specifications do not meet the respective Leica Camera AG production and testing standards. Even though the malfunction occurs only after prolonged use in extreme conditions, i.e. perhaps even after the warranty period has expired, thanks to the service described here, the Leica Digilux2 customers can rely on having their camera repaired free of charge over a longer period of time. Thus, supported by this measure, Leica Camera AG is ensuring that the Leica Digilux 2 will retain its value after having been discontinued.

Leica Digilux2 digital camera - Sensor and Optics
The Leica Digilux camera features a Leica DC VARIO-SUMMICRON 7-22,5 mm f/2.0-2.4 ASPH. zoom lens, which covers a focal length range comparable to 28 to 90 mm in the 35 mm system. The 2/3-inch image sensor gives a resolution of five million pixels. The DC VARIO-SUMMICRON 7-22,5 mm f/2.0-2.4 ASPH. lens consists of 13 elements in ten optical components. Two of the lens elements have an aspherical surface, differing from the normal spherical shape.

The Leica Digilux 2's 2.5-inch LCD display is transreflexive: a combination of backlighting and use of the available light increases its brightness. This eliminates most of the troublesome reflections that sometimes appear on display surfaces in bright ambient light. Furthermore the Leica Digilux 2 has a large, high contrast electronic viewfinder with a resolution of 235,000 pixels also featuring dioptre compensation.
