FujifilmFujifilm S5 Pro features : Before the Photokina 2006 show began, Fujifilm announced the development of the anticipated follow up to the FinePix S3 Pro DSLR; Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro digital SLR camera. During the announcement, Fujifilm discussed all the features in detail, but since then, Fujifilm Netherlands has expanded these features even further, adding new details. According to Fujifilm, the availability of the new Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro is an important next step in Fujifilm’s journey - one of continuous ambition with the goal of generating professional DSLR image quality that lives up to Fujifilm’s professional film heritage. The extended dynamic range of the Super CCD SR is especially popular.

The Real Photo Technology Pro, that combines Super CCD SR Pro and the RP Processor Pro, enables a greater dynamic range with a more fluid tone scale in both bright light and shadow. The newly designed Super CCD SR Pro has an optimized low-pass filter that minimizes the noise level and moiré effect. The newly developed RP (Real Photo) Processor Pro has two cycles of noise reduction that enables photographers to take photos at even higher sensitivity (ISO 100-ISO3200) with clearly reduced noise level.

Fujifilm S5 Pro DSLR - Media Transfer Protocol
The Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro supports the new Media Transfer Protocol (MTP). The advantage of this protocol is that it does not need drivers. All MTP-compatible appliances use drivers that Microsoft has built into Windows. This enables S5 Pro users to perform all transfers and synchronizations on appliances with Windows. MPT has limitations specific to the appliance used. MTP informs the PC of the appliances limitations, such as storage capacity or the lack of support of certain types of files. The appliance appears in the Windows window. All MTP compatible appliances appear in the ‘My Computer’ window for easy access, similar to the ”Mass Storage Class (MSC)” based appliances currently on the market and appear as a separate drive-letter.

Media Transfer Protocol - Similarities to PTP
MTP is based on Microsoft's PTP protocol (Picture Transfer Protocol) that was introduced with Windows XP to allow the safe and simple transfer of photos from a digital camera to the PC. Until now, Fujifilm cameras had used Mass Storage Class (MSC) drivers, but recently, the switch was made to PTP cameras like the FinePix Z3, S6500fd and the F30. (The FinePix S9600 will have Mass Storage Class (MSC). Microsoft chose PTP rather than the older MSC, because PTP facilitates several improvements:

• "Hot" disconnection, the possibility to disconnect an appliance during the transfer without losing information on the card or camera
• Maintaining of the user interface during the time that the camera is connected to the PC
• The possibility to manage/operate the appliance from Windows
• The possibility to send information over an IP network or MTP/IP (this is a future possibility - with the current group of MTP compatible appliances transfer/operation will only be possible via USB 2.0 ).
