Target extended service for consumer electronics : Target announced that it will now offer extended service plans for its consumer electronics products. The extended service plans have been introduced because of guest demand for increased service coverage on major electronic purchases. The extended service plans will be available in four price points, and will use an innovative identification sticker design. Guests simply apply the sticker to their electronic device, and call the number printed on the sticker when they need to arrange for service under the extended service plan. Target has eliminated the hassles commonly associated with obtaining service under an extended service plan after the loss of the receipt.

“Target is simplifying the extended service plan for our guests, keeping in line with our goal of conveniently providing guests with products and services that make their lives easier,” said Steve Eastman, vice president, general merchandise manager. The four extended service plans offer a three year term of coverage, for all consumer electronics; except contract cell phones. The plans can be purchased at the same time as the electronics, or up to 90 days after the initial purchase. The service plans will be based on the price the guest pays for a product.

The three year term of coverage begins on the date of purchase. Registration is not required and there are no hidden fees. The plans will be offered at four affordable price levels. The extended service plans will begin appearing in Target stores in early October. The plans are packaged, with the identification sticker, to be easily recognizable and easy to purchase. They will be available in the electronics department of Target stores.
