SamsungSamsung Photokina booth : It was interesting to see how Samsung's progress at Photokina. If we compare Samsung's current range to that of two years ago, we can see that a lot has changed. While the compacts were simple cameras that felt a bit cheap, the current range is a different story. The new NV series, for example; the NV10 comes out top with 10 Megapixels in resolution, but the NV7 OPS is a daring design and shows a completely different Samsung design. It is not for nothing that we heard the Samsung being mentioned often, with the same conclusion being reached every time. It seems that Samsung is a manufacturer to watch out for. Even employees from the top 3 camera manufacturers expect great things from Samsung and fear that it has even more up its sleeve.

In any case, Samsung has taken a step in this direction with the introduction of its first ten Megapixel DSLR camera, the Samsung GX10. This DSLR is the result of intense collaboration between Pentax and Samsung and has been received enthusiastically by the media. Although the first tests still have to appear, it looks as if Samsung is on to a winner with the GX10. The Samsung GX10 has a 10.2 Megapixel image sensor, a 2.5-inch LCD display, anti-dust en an inbuilt image stabiliser.

The collaboration with Pentax is beginning to bear fruit and with the GX10, it looks as if Samsung is suddenly providing competition for the renowned SLR manufacturers - very impressive! As well as presenting products in the form of its digital compact cameras and the Samsung GX10 digital SLR camera, Samsung showed several lenses and two flashes its name.

The new GX10 played a starring role in the large studio set up at the Samsung stall. In the studio there was a model posing on a classic motorcycle, and within no time, the overwhelmingly male public were jostling for a place at the front. Samsung made its mark at Photokina 2006 and took another step in the pursuit of its real objective; to conquer a clear share of the market by 2008.
