Philips SRU9600 review at I4U : I4U, the Future Technology News website, has reviewed the Philips SRU9600 LCD touch screen remote. The Philips SRU9600 Universal Remote Control provides a single control solution for all home entertainment equipment, with an extensive infrared code database for any device or brand. A rotary controller enables easy navigation through the set-up stages and to access the control screens for each device loaded into the system. To make operation of multiple home entertainment devices at once easy, the Philips SRU9600 can be set up via an on-screen ‘wizard’ to create one-touch control commands. Contained within a luxurious black and silver-effect casing, the SRU9600 adds a distinctly glamourous touch.

Philips SRU 9600 remote - Installation
According to I4U: "The SRU9600 uses a straight forward process to add a device. To configure my TV, I first select TV with the click wheel from the list. Next I choose the brand. The Philips SRU9600 has 1,100 brands in its database. I have tried it with a cheap Daewoo TV and the remote has this brand in its list. Now the remote tries to find the right device. For that I need to switch on the TV and then hold the OK button until the TV switches off. While I hold the OK button the remote cycles through available codes."
Philips SRU9600 remote - Manual and Firmware
I4U continues: "The SRU9600 is small and light enough to keep holding while watching TV. The setup is really super easy, well done Philips! The simplicity is also key to continue further improve the handling by adding new keys or activities to the remote, without having look into the manual. The only negatives that I could find are that the SRU9600 is a bit heavy (because of the 3AA batteries) and that it cannot be updated with a new firmware or code database."
