KodakKodak i1860 scanner : Eastman Kodak Company has introduced a new document scanner and an upgrade to its Capture Software, both designed to meet the high production needs of paper-intensive environments. The Kodak i1860 Scanner captures images at up to 200 pages per minute, making it the fastest production scanner offered by Kodak. It was designed for maximum productivity, for customers like service bureaus, insurance companies that process claims in a central location, and financial institutions that handle volumes of transactions such as loan and mortgage applications. The scanner efficiently manages documentation with a wide variety of document sizes, colors, and weight.

The company already has orders for its Kodak i1860 Scanner, after offering pre-launch demonstrations during the DMS tradeshow in Cologne, Germany last month. Vienna-based BISS, the largest service bureau in Austria, and Rot-tenburg-based Heydt Verlags, one of the largest service bureaus in Germany, were among the first to place orders immediately upon seeing the demo.

Kodak i-1860 scanner & hardware
“As one of the biggest service bureaus, we require speed and robustness as well as ergonomics and ease of use,” said Alexandra Stockl-Paul, Chief Executive Officer of Heydt-Verlags-GmbH. “The new i1860 scanner, together with Kodak hardware support, is an unbeatable bundle for high-quality, high-volume scanning.”

Kodak i1860 scanner's footprint
The new scanner was designed for optimum efficiency, both in speed and ergonomics. It features easy-to-use operation for high-production environments, and offers a 10-inch height adjustment, enabling operators to work standing or seated. The scanner’s footprint is the smallest in the industry, accommodating highly efficient workflow patterns.

Kodak i1860 - Ergonomic design development
“Research has shown a correlation between employee comfort and productivity, especially when it comes to adjustable workstations,” said Lois Powell, Document Imaging Business Manager with Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group. “In the development of the i1860’s ergonomic design, we referenced studies like the one conducted by Cornell University’s Human Factors and Ergonomic Laboratory, in which more than 80 percent of participants using an adjustable workstation reported a significant increase in overall productivity.” The Kodak i1860 Scanner has a list price of $85,000, and will be shipped to customers beginning in December 2006.

Kodak Capture software v6.10
In addition, Kodak has introduced the latest upgrade of its image capture software, to support the speed and features of its newest scanner lines for both desktop and production scanning. Kodak Capture Software, Version 6.10, adds MICR code support, augmenting current bar code and optical character recognition (OCR) indexing capabilities. Indexing via MICR code is a critical function of the sorting of checks, making the newest version of Kodak’s capture software even more efficient in financial environments.

Kodak Capture software supports i1860 scanner
The new software, which supports the new Kodak i1860 Scanner and recently released i1200 and i1300 Series Scanners, will be available in multi-license discounts for large volume purchases of 50 and 100 seats.
