Panasonic booth at Photokina : If there was one stall that was impossible to ignore, that was Panasonic. Panasonic showed that it has become a trend-setting player on the digital imaging market within a relatively short space of time with an overwhelming presentation of products. The current LUMIX series of digital cameras are stylish and have all been fitted with MEGA O.I.S. (optical image stabilisation), a valuable feature. Panasonic is busy climbing to the top and is clearly successful in the compact camera segment. The visitors had the opportunity to try out the new models and lots of them did. The new top models from the LUMIX series, the Panasonic FZ50 and LX2, have a ten Megapixel image sensor combined with the new Venus III processor. Three new compact LUMIX cameras were also put in the spotlight; the FX3, FX07 and the FX50.

Panasonic booth - Lumix DMC L1
In addition to the compact camera assortment, Panasonic is concentrating on entering the digital SLR segment. Panasonic is taking its time for this and is first appealing to a very select public with the Panasonic L1. I can well imagine that the DSLR basis that Panasonic is currently working on will be extended next year with digital SLR cameras aimed at a larger public. At the minute, this could go in any direction and I am very curious about the next step on Panasonic’s chosen path.
Leica D Summilux 25mm ASPH lens
As well as digital compact cameras and the Panasonic L1 DSLR, Panasonic introduced a fantastic lens during the Photokina. The new LEICA D SUMMILUX 25mm f/1.4 ASPH lens is a high quality lens that will form a great combination with the Panasonic L1. Unfortunately, fans will have to be patient; the LEICA D SUMMILUX 25mm f/1.4 ASPH will not be available until next April.
