FujifilmFujifilm booth at Photokina : If you think of Photokina, you think automatically of Fujifilm, at least it seems so if you visit their booth. It is a large booth with a host of products that show that Fujifilm is a very active player on the digital imaging market. Fujifilm seems to have a solution for everything, whether you are taking a picture or processing it. Fujifilm presents its digital compact camera line in a striking manner: most of the competition only show the product itself, but Fujifilm shows the public various innovations from the camera.
Fujifilm Photokina boothFujifilm booth - Wireless adapter
As well as the ranges of cameras and printers, Fujifilm demonstrated wireless and its various applications. What stood out were the wireless adapters for the Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro and Fujifilm FinePix S9600 cameras, that are currently only being made in prototype. That fact the Fujifilm FinePix S5 Pro is based on a Nikon D200 body makes you wonder why a special new Fujifilm wireless adapter is being developed… The Fujifilm FinePix S9600 was also demonstrated at Photokina in a wireless configuration. Perhaps this is an interesting application for small studios or enthusiastic amateur photographers.

Fujifilm Photokina booth - Fujifilm FinePix S5 pro
As well as the abundance of digital compact cameras and demonstrations of various innovations within the camera, Fujifilm used the opportunity to present its new digital SLR camera at Photokina; de Fujifilm S5 Pro. It’s a shame that the camera could only be admired from behind glass; expectations of the new Fujifilm DSLR were running high and a touch & try for visitors to the Kina would not have been misplaced. What may still be a problem for Fujifilm is the trust that consumers have in Megapixel. Recently, consumer DSLR cameras have been upgraded at a breakneck speed to the ten Megapixel segment, and this means that you’ve got some explaining to do if you are the producer of a Fujifilm S5 Pro with 6 Super CCD Megapixels. The advantages are there, obviously, but the psychological pressure of the Megapixel race should not be underestimated. In any case, we are looking forward to the new Fuji S5 Pro with bated breath!

Fujifilm booth - Face Recognition
The Face Recognition system was demonstrated convincingly to the public and the differences in the time needed to recognise and process the pictures between Fujifilm and its competitors was at times painfully obvious. Fujifilm has mastered this technique perfectly and couldn’t resist pointing this out to the public. Fujifilm has taken many techniques from other market segments where it is prominently represented and transferred them to the consumer digital camera segment.
