NikonNikon booth at Photokina : The Nikon stand at Photokina could hardly be missed. In striking colours, yellow and deep black, Nikon presented itself to the host of visitors who wanted to see the new Nikon range with their own eyes. The star of the show was the new Nikon D80, Nikon's newest digital reflex camera. The Nikon D80 could anticipate a great deal of interest and large numbers of them were on show, so that the visitors flocking to the stand could hold the camera and try it out themselves. De Nikon D80 has a ten Megapixel image sensor and many high quality techniques taken straight from Nikon’s professional SLR line. Personally, I think there is a good chance that the Nikon D80 will grab a very large share of the market.

Compared to the competition, the Nikon D80 has an improbably large number of functionalities and the camera has a great price/quality ratio. In addition to the D80, Nikon showed its new Coolpix digital compact camera line. As well as the anticipated improved models, like the Coolpix S10 and Coolpix L6 cameras, Nikon has extended its wireless functionality further with the Coolpix S7c. It is possible to take a picture and send it directly via a hotspot, i.e. directly from the camera. Nikon is paving the way into what is still unchartered territory for many manufacturers. The Coolpix series of digital cameras have intelligent software and consist primarily of automatic programs. Nikon users who want to get more out of digital photography and set aperture, shutter speed and other photographic modes by themselves must make the step to a digital reflex. A fully fledged reflex model is already available in the form of Nikon’s entry-level model, the D50.

Nikon Photokina booth - Capture NX software
As well as cameras, Nikon makes software solutions for RAW format (NEF at Nikon) and provides a complete solution with Capture NX. Nikon also has an extensive range of lenses and has lenses to suit everyone, whether you are an amateur or professional.

Nikon booth - Digital reflex camera
The Nikon stand received a lot of visitors and it is good to see that it looks as if consumers are now ready for the real work; the digital reflex camera. The DSLR market has broken open and is now affordable for the masses. Photography fans will view this embracing of DSLR as a positive development. The DSLR camera will bring passion back to photography, as is possible. Unleashing unknown creativity on a single image, using the camera as a tool for capturing that special moment.
