e-FotografijaPentax K100D review at e-Fotografija : Our good friend and DIWA member Matjaz Intihar from e-Fotografija has reviewed the Pentax K100D digital SLR camera. The Pentax 100D packs a large, high-performance 23.5mm x 15.7mm CCD as its image sensor and incorporates a large 2.5 inch color LCD monitor on its back panel. The Pentax K100D’s sophisticated SAFOX VIII auto focus system features 11 sensor points (with nine cross-type sensors in the middle) to automatically focus on the subject with utmost precision, even when it is positioned off center. The Pentax K100D features an auto sensitivity control function, which automatically sets the optimum standard output sensitivity, up to 3200, which is the highest automatic setting in its class.
Pentax K100D review at e-FotografijaPentax 100D DSLR camera - Body
According to Matjaz: "First of all, the camera is very similar to its *ist predecessors. The Pentax K100D is still very compact. Compared to the *istDL, which is still available, it got a bit bigger, measuring 129.5 x 92.5 x 70mm, making it a bit easier to hold. The weight also increased, up to 560 g without the four AA batteries, and 620 g with the batteries. The body is made of black, high quality plastic and offers a good grip. There are very few buttons on the body, making it easy to choose the right one. The need for more buttons was offset with the Fn (Function) button."

Pentax K100D digital SLR - CCD and Action photography
Matjaz continues: "The main features are similar to the *istDS and the *istDL. Also keeping with the tradition of these two cameras, the K100D uses SD (Secure Digital) memory cards. The sensor remains unchanged, a CCD with 6.1 effective MP. The same goes for the shutter, capable of Bulb, 30 s - 1/4000 s and with a flash sync time of 1/180 s. The available ISO settings range from 200 to 3200, there's a pop-up flash and three metering modes, including Spot. Sequential shooting is also available, at a rate of 2.8 JPEG frames per second with a buffer that holds 5 frames."

Pentax K-100D - Megapixels and Image quality
"Hence this introduction. Up to this point, the Pentax K100D fared much better than the more expensive competitive cameras in several fields. Its only technical drawback when compared to other cameras that are entering the market at the moment is only 6.1 Megapixels. However, the Megapixel myth has been dispelled, at least in Slovenia. Very few photographers make posters with entry-level cameras. These cameras are primarily intended for enthusiasts who want to move from the point-and-shoot camp to the more advanced cameras," concludes Matjaz.
