ColorlinkColor Filter Wheel ColorLink SnapWave : ColorLink, a leading supplier of polarization and color management optics for the consumer electronics industry, today announced the release of SnapWave, a solid state switchable color filter. SnapWave-equipped cameras will capture a noticeably wider array of colors with no loss in resolution. SnapWave can mount on to the front end of existing cameras with some simple electronics for synchronization to the camera shutter. SnapWave can be designed to convert black and white cameras into color or enhance the performance of existing color cameras through the principle of spectral-division and find immediate application where color fidelity is critical such as e-commerce, medical imaging and machine vision.

ColorLink's John Korah explained, "ColorLink's SnapWave is a commercially viable solution to color enhancement that addresses the limitations of the incumbent technologies and fits in a package that satisfies almost all cameras." SnapWave are color filter wheels with no moving parts. Transmissive, single pixel devices that filter wavelengths on demand, SnapWave are designed for superior switching speeds, scalable form factor, high contrast, and spectral fidelity. SnapWave complements neutral sensors enabling full color or multi-spectral imaging, spectroscopic detection for life-sciences instrumentation, machine vision, document imaging or any application where no moving parts, zero loss in resolution, all digital operation and low power consumption are advantageous.

ColorLink SnapWave - Colorselect Filters
SnapWave are built on ColorLink’s proven ColorSelect filters recently deployed in the latest line of micro display based consumer projection televisions. ColorSelect filters establish a spectral profile using the polarization interference technique. By combining ColorSelect with industry standard liquid crystal cells, we produce SnapWave; a single pixel, solid state, digital filter. A color filter wheel with no moving parts, customer specific bands of wavelength are designed into ColorSelect filters and loaded into SnapWave. By driving the LC cells, SnapWave can present the spectrum from one ColorSelect filter or sequence between the ColorSelect filters loaded into SnapWave at a customer specified frequency.

SnapWave enables zero-loss in capture resolution and help generate images free from sampling artifacts associated with color filter arrays (CFA) (eg. Bayer Pattern). With improved dynamic range over dye-based CFA, no moving parts and hence no jitter, low power consumption and a scalable form factor that enables miniaturization, SnapWave are a cost effective solution for color on demand. SnapWave are available for full color (RGB SnapWave) or single color (Bandpass SnapWave) or any number of customer specified bands. SnapWave also work outside of the visible region.
