Fujitsu mobile hard disk drive : Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., one of the world's leading suppliers of innovative computer products including hard disk drives, peripherals and biometric security solutions, today announced two additions to its mobile hard disk drive (HDD) family: the MHW2160BH series, a 160GB, 2.5" Serial ATA (SATA) model featuring perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) technology; and the MHW2080AT series, an up to 80GB Parallel ATA (PATA) hard disk drive. The 160GB SATA product was developed to address customer demand for increased storage capacity, while the 80GB hard disk drive was designed for the consumer electronics (CE) and external USB storage markets.

With up to 160GB capacity and 5400RPM, the new Fujitsu MHW2160BH series is an ideal solution for ultra-fast, high-capacity notebook computers. Developed using PMR technology, the mobile SATA hard disk drives achieve 80GB of storage per platter, among the highest in the industry with this rotation speed. These latest additions to the Fujitsu SATA product line feature the same key attributes that have made their predecessors so popular, including high data transfer rates, top reliability, low power consumption and near-silent operation. The MHV2160BH hard disk drives will begin shipping by the fourth quarter of this year.

The new Fujitsu MHW2080AT series of hard disk drives are geared toward non-IT applications whose products have a longer life cycle. Featuring up to 80GB capacity in a single platter as well as low power consumption, the cost- efficient mobile HDDs also demonstrate best-in-class reduced acoustic noise, resulting in exceptionally quiet performance. Scheduled to ship next quarter, the MHW2080AT series of hard disk drives are ideal for CE applications such as audio, external USB storage solutions, and other industrial applications.

"The two additions to our mobile family are the latest in a history of industry leading Fujitsu hard disk drives available to accommodate the wide array of demands in today's marketplace," said Joel Hagberg, vice president, marketing and business development, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. "Notebook OEMs will begin requiring 160GB SATA hard disk drives by early 2007, so Fujitsu is introducing the new perpendicular recording series at the perfect time to meet this demand. In addition, our new MHV2080AT HDDs will be an asset to the CE market, where manufacturers are transitioning from 3.5" to 2.5" PATA models in order to craft the sleeker, more lightweight products consumers desire."
